War Thunder’s Sky Odyssey Update Will Add Greek Aircraft and Tanks to Israel’s Tech Tree
The planned additions range from the SB2C-5 Helldiver and F-102A Delta Dagger to the Rafale EG (AESA) and Leopard 2A6 HEL.
War Thunder’s upcoming Sky Odyssey major update will bring Greek aircraft and ground vehicles to Israel’s tech tree, adding a lineup that stretches from the SB2C-5 Helldiver to the Rank IX Rafale EG (AESA). The ground additions will include Greek variants of the Leopard 2A6, along with Soviet-made air defense systems.
Gaijin Entertainment outlined the additions in its official announcement, with the aircraft receiving most of the attention in this update.
Greek aircraft run from the Helldiver to the Rafale
The aviation branch will begin with the SB2C-5 Helldiver, which Greece received in spring 1949. Its Greek configuration is a land-based version without an arresting hook, while its landing gear was modified for that role. The attack and torpedo bomber will bring a heavy payload, 20 mm cannons, and the maneuverability that has made the aircraft useful in mixed battles.
Jet aircraft will begin with the F-84G-16-RE Thunderjet strike aircraft before players reach the F-102A Delta Dagger. The interceptor is described as the first production supersonic delta-wing interceptor, the first supersonic all-weather interceptor, and the first aircraft of its type armed only with missiles. The F-86E(M) will represent an export version of the upgraded Sabre family, with a new engine, a modified fuselage, and six heavy machine guns. It also became the first supersonic aircraft operated by the Hellenic Air Force.
Rank VII will add two Corsair II variants. The A-7H will be part of the regular tech tree, while the A-7E will be a premium aircraft. Both can carry weapons for attacking tanks and air defense systems, including Shrike anti-radiation missiles and Sidewinder air-to-air missiles.
The Mirage F1CG will trade guided ground-attack weapons for greater speed and stronger short-range air-to-air options. It will carry bombs and rockets, replace the usual R.550 Magic missiles with AIM-9P missiles, and carry four infrared-guided missiles in total.
Rank VIII will feature the Phantom II F-4E AUP and Mirage 2000-5EG. The Phantom will focus on ground attack with guided and unguided weapons, as well as anti-radiation missiles. The Mirage will lean toward air combat, carrying up to six MICA-EM radar-guided missiles while offering higher speed and maneuverability. Its Mk2 configuration will use an upgraded radar and electronics package.
At the top of the Greek aviation branch, the Rafale EG (AESA) will also become Israel’s first Rank IX aircraft. It will carry up to eight radar-guided missiles, while the DAMOCLES targeting pod will allow it to use weapons such as the GBU-49 Paveway II and AASM 250 HAMMER precision-guided bombs.
The premium AH-64A (GR) helicopter will be placed in the U.S. tree rather than moving to Israel’s branch. It has a direct equivalent in Israel’s existing AH-64A Peten.
Leopard 2A6 HEL leads the ground additions
Ground vehicles will arrive in a smaller group because Sky Odyssey is centered mainly on aviation. The first additions will include the Soviet-built Osa-AKM and Tor-M1 surface-to-air missile systems, which will fill Israel’s Rank VII air defense roles across several Battle Ratings.
The most distinctive tank addition will be the German Leopard 2A6 HEL, a version built for the Greek Army. Greece signed the supply contract in 2003, and most of the vehicles were assembled in the country. The tank features reinforced upper glacis armor comparable to the packages used on the Leopard 2A7 and Swedish Strv 122, along with a long 120 mm gun, thermal imagers, and ammunition such as DM53 APFSDS.
