DayZ update 1.29 Road to Badlands is now live across all platforms, bringing several pieces of the upcoming Badlands expansion into the current game. Bohemia Interactive described it as a full-sized summer update rather than a small technical stopgap in its official Steam announcement.
The update adds the SCR-17 Battle Rifle, including a black version for Sakhal, along with two buttstocks, a magazine, and Holo sights. Players can also find Tanker Helmets, Military Caps, Brass Knuckles, a special new knuckle duster variant, and desert camouflage versions of the Combat Backpack and Plate Carrier Vest.

Nasdara Convoys and a New Infected Variant
Nasdara military convoys now appear on Chernarus and Livonia. The wrecked convoy content first appeared during the experimental phase and now forms part of the stable update.
Bohemia Interactive also added a female variant of the infected soldier, giving the infected population more visual variety.

Looting Now Demands More Planning
Update 1.29 applies changes from an earlier Central Economy test to the live game. The goal is to slow the early rhythm of a session and put more pressure on resource management and character upkeep. That means the first areas players search after spawning should matter more.
Weapon and rifle placement has also been adjusted. Guns can still appear at familiar locations such as hunting camps and military bases, but players may have fewer firearm choices in any one area. Vests and helmets are rarer, while some weapons can now spawn around farms. NBC equipment can also appear outside Medical Centers, Fire Stations, and high-tier military locations.

DayZ Badlands Release Window Coming Soon
The stable update also leads into the next stage of Bohemia Interactive’s Badlands rollout. The studio plans to reveal a release window for DayZ Badlands during the Convergence Indie Showcase on July 16, 2026, at 20:00 CEST. That announcement will provide a window rather than a final launch date.
A fifth DayZ Badlands developer blog is scheduled for July 17, 2026. Bohemia Interactive also said it recently hosted community leaders and content creators in Prague for a LAN event featuring the expansion.
The update teaser is available below.
