Subnautica 2 can turn basic survival into a real headache fast. Hunger and thirst sit right beside oxygen and hostile wildlife, and a bad death can leave you trying to recover a messy pile of gear from far away.
The good news is that the game gives you a few steady ways to stay fed and hydrated. If you want a wider early-game breakdown, this early digestion fix covers the first step you should take.
Start by grabbing the biological upgrade called Digestion Adaptation near Anita’s Blackbox. Once you have it, you can safely consume the local plants and creatures scattered around the alien ocean.
For water, Water Slugs are the easiest answer. They sit on the sea floor, glow blue at night, and sometimes hide in underwater grass patches. Pick up a few and run them through the Fabricator whenever you need a refill. Each bottle restores +40 hydration, which makes them a dependable option for longer trips. Later in the game, you can also make water with the processor using the Acidic Raion Pouch recipe.
Food follows a similar pattern. Cooked fish will carry you through the early hours, but the better meals give you more hunger back for the effort. Threemoon Temaki is one strong example. It needs three fish types and Fibrous Pulp, but it pays out +60 food and +15 health.
Once your base has a Processor, your options improve again. You can make Biofuel Blocks there, then combine them with salt to create Nutrient Blocks. Those are a strong pick for long expeditions because they fill a lot of hunger in one go and help you avoid wasting supplies while you travel.
With the right tools and a little prep, food and water stop being a constant panic and start feeling like part of the routine. Tell us what you think in the comments, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, Instagram for more updates.
