Subnautica 2 crossed 1 million sales in its first hour on sale, and Unknown Worlds said so in a Bluesky post on May 14, 2026. The studio thanked players for the support after saying more than 1 million Subnauts had already jumped in.

That kind of start fits the launch rush. The game had already climbed past more than 370,000 concurrent players in its first 30 minutes on Steam, and it arrived after more than 5 million wishlists stacked up before release. Steam is also showing a very positive user rating, which gives the early access launch more momentum.
The numbers land in a messier backdrop for Krafton. The court ruling behind the Subnautica 2 dispute said Krafton’s firing of Unknown Worlds leaders Ted Gill, Charlie Cleveland, and Max McGuire was tied to a bid to avoid a $250 million bonus, and that context makes every sales update harder to shrug off.
