Subnautica 2 Team Commits $100,000 to The Ocean Cleanup
Unknown Worlds is also backing the effort with beach and shoreline cleanups by team members near their homes.

Subnautica 2 is bringing its ocean-care message into the real world. Unknown Worlds has announced a $100,000 donation to The Ocean Cleanup, a nonprofit that develops and scales solutions for removing plastic pollution from the world’s oceans.
In a Steam announcement, the team said the donation was made on behalf of the game’s community. Since Subnautica 2 entered Early Access, players have mapped underwater regions, built bases, brought friends into the same worlds, and shared feedback that has influenced the game’s development.
From underwater worlds to real shorelines
The partnership goes beyond a financial contribution. Members of the Subnautica 2 team gathered their gear and cleaned beaches and shorelines near their homes, putting the project’s environmental message into practice outside the game.
A video accompanying the announcement documents those cleanup efforts:
Ocean conservation has been part of Subnautica’s identity from the beginning. Unknown Worlds said it previously supported The Ocean Cleanup during the original game, and continuing that relationship with Subnautica 2 felt like a fitting way to recognize what the community has built around the series.
The Ocean Cleanup focuses on plastic pollution in both oceans and rivers, with projects aimed at developing solutions that can be used on a larger scale. More information about the organization’s work is available through The Ocean Cleanup’s website.
