Denshattack! Turns a Train Into the Wildest Skateboard Yet

The rail-riding adventure launches on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Xbox Game Pass, and Xbox Cloud Gaming on July 15, 2026.

Denshattack! launches on July 15, 2026, with a wild premise that is hard to miss: the skateboard is a train. Players ride through a colorful Japanese-inspired dystopia, chaining ollies, kickflips, grinds, and other tricks across railway lines.

In an Xbox Wire feature about Denshattack!, the developers explained how the idea began with a small Japanese toy train. After placing it on a finger skate and imagining it jumping over obstacles, the team built a quick prototype and found that the strange concept could work as a game.

The project drew inspiration from Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, SSX, Jet Set Radio, and Sonic. Rather than copying the open movement of a traditional skatepark, Denshattack! uses railway tracks as its main playground. That puts the focus on speed, timing, rhythm, and finding creative ways to keep a combo going.

The train’s fixed route initially looked like a possible limitation, since players cannot simply steer anywhere they want. During development, though, the team found that the rails gave the game its own kind of momentum. The result combines the speed of a train with the timing-based trick play of a skateboarding game.

That blend also created a tricky design problem. A train should not be able to ollie, and grinding with several tons of steel requires a very different sense of weight from grinding on a skateboard. Each trick had to feel impossible while still carrying enough force and momentum to make the machine believable within the game’s rules.

A Dystopian Journey on the Rails

Denshattack! follows Emi as she travels across a dystopian version of Japan. Along the way, she battles and befriends people pushed outside society who have found a shared identity through the outlawed sport.

The abandoned railways serve as more than trick spots. They are places reclaimed by a subculture that uses movement and creativity to express itself, resist oppression, and bring people together. That story gives the absurd train-skating premise a more grounded emotional center.

The game is available on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox PC, with day-one access through Xbox Game Pass. It also supports Xbox Cloud Gaming and Xbox Play Anywhere. The official Microsoft Store listing describes a campaign across cities, meadows, volcanoes, and oceans, along with customizable trains and score-chasing challenges.

Denshattack!’s Microsoft Store listing also highlights rival gangs, a shady megacorporation, and a mission to take back the tracks one trick at a time.

Denshattack! is now available, so share your thoughts on its train-powered take on skateboarding in the comments. You can also follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, and Instagram.
