Final Fantasy VII Revelation Will Let Players Start on Hard Mode
Hard Mode will be available from the start without an item-use ban, while Dynamic Mode preserves high-level battles for fully leveled characters.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation will let players select Hard Mode from the start, rather than requiring them to finish the story first as in Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth. Series producer Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed the change in an interview with Hardcore Gamer, adding that the mode is being reworked for the final game’s design.
Hard Mode will bring tougher battles and gameplay from the campaign’s opening stretch, but it will not retain the old restriction on using items. Revelation’s expanded co-op abilities and combat system led the developers to decide that banning items would not fit the experience they wanted to build.
Players can also choose between Dynamic or static enemy strength. Dynamic Mode will preserve the high-strategy battles associated with the earlier games, giving fully leveled characters access to that high-level challenge.
Hamaguchi also said players will have a range of endgame content to tackle after finishing the campaign. A September demo previewed playable Vincent and Cid alongside the role-based FITS system, adding to the combat options that distinguish Revelation. The game is scheduled to launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC on April 8, 2027.
