
PlayStation‘s September 3, 2026 doubleheader has now aired, pairing State of Play with State of Play Japan in one continuous broadcast. The first presentation mixed updates from PlayStation Studios and third-party partners before Yuki Kaji hosted the Japan-focused show that followed immediately. PlayStation’s full September 3 recap adds release dates and developer details to the broad announcements shown across both broadcasts.
Before PlayStation made the schedule official, Nash Weedle posted on August 2 that a State of Play would take place on September 3. The message read, A State of Play will take place on September 3rd. The prediction matched the date PlayStation later confirmed, although the official announcement provided the broadcast order, language options, and timing.
Before the broadcasts, Final Fantasy VII Revelation was the only specifically named game PlayStation had confirmed. Square Enix closed the first presentation with an extended look at the final game in its Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy.
What the first State of Play showed
An exclusive Resident Evil clip opened the presentation. The new film from Zach Cregger, director of Barbarian and Weapons, arrives in cinemas on September 18 and follows medical courier Bryan after a delivery to Raccoon City General Hospital draws him into a viral outbreak.
Marvel’s Wolverine then received a launch trailer ahead of its global September 15, 2026 release on PS5. Insomniac’s footage features Logan alongside Jean Grey and Team X, as well as additional allies and enemies. Insomniac also recently collected more than 600 real-world reference scans across four biomes in Japan while working on the game.
Other substantial updates included Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, Metro 2039, and the announcement of Maneater 2. Crimson Desert revealed its Charting the Unknown DLC, while Final Fantasy Resonance received a demo and Gundam Rogue Orbit received a release-date trailer.
Ghost of Yotei Most Wanted, Rhapsody in Scarlet, Saros, the Gran Turismo 7 Spec IV update, and an Until Dawn 2 choice and consequence trailer also appeared. Additional trailers covered Hunter’s Moon, Uncanyon, Keeper, and Rev. NOiR.
Hardware was part of the presentation as well. PlayStation revealed two Grand Theft Auto VI Limited-Edition DualSense Wireless Controllers. One design is dark and the other is white, with both using Vice City-inspired details. They launch on November 19, and preorders open on September 10.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation arrives on April 8, 2027
The upcoming Square Enix RPG launches on PS5 on April 8, 2027. Its release-date trailer was followed by a combat and exploration deep dive showing travel aboard the Highwind, grapple gun traversal, chocobos, and the FITS combat system. A recent Gamescom trailer also showed the Weapons and Cloud traveling with his companions across the game world aboard the Highwind. Square Enix has provided a separate breakdown of the game’s world and combat.
More release dates and gameplay details
Final Fantasy Resonance arrives on October 22. Its first chapter is available as a demo on PlayStation Store from September 3, and save data carries over to the full game. Sephiroth appears as an optional challenge that rewards players with a special unlock.
Fate/Extra Record launches on PS5 and PS4 on January 28, 2027. The full remake revisits the Moon Holy Grail War and uses a rebuilt Command Card battle system with deck-building elements.
Ghost of Yotei adds the Most Wanted combat survival mode and the Echoes of Sekigahara expansion on October 1 as part of the game’s Complete Edition. Most Wanted sends Atsu against enemy waves and new bosses, with weapons, cosmetics, and playable characters available as rewards. Echoes of Sekigahara focuses on Atsu’s past and the Battle of Sekigahara. Japanese voice actor Fairouz Ai also discussed returning to the role in State of Play Japan. Where the Seeds Fall launches on PS5 on November 5, 2026. CygamesEdge’s debut game follows a soldier and a Fell Child as they descend the World Tree toward a Blight-stricken surface filled with ruins, wind, and dangerous drops.
Hunter’s Moon arrives on PS5 on October 25. The first-person folk horror game takes place over one night in 17th-century England, where an accused woman must avoid witch hunters while listening in on villagers and searching for a way to survive.
Stupid Never Dies launches on October 21, and its PS5 demo is available on September 3. Save data carries into the full game, while the trailer showed zombie combat and the ability to steal powers from powerful monsters. SlashZero also has a time-limited PS5 demo available on September 3, offering three playable characters, boss fights, and more than 10 hours of content ahead of its spring 2027 release.
New games stretch into 2028
CONQ: Crown of No Quarter opened its campaign with a first trailer. The shared open-world warfare game lets players command armies on land and sea, attack enemy strongholds, construct siege engines, and fight for their faction in large battles.
Daba: Land of Water Scar is coming to PS5 in spring 2027 through PlayStation’s China Hero Project. Developed by Dark Star Games, it places players in the role of a clayman crossing a fantastical world where the water has disappeared.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is coming to PS5 in 2027. Players will create their own hero, build a personal fighting style, and face powerful opponents. Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World launches on PS5 on December 3, following two young Monster Wranglers and the creatures they befriend in a mysterious alternate world.
Digimon Story Time Stranger: A Hero’s Eternal Legacy is a new expansion DLC coming to PS5 in 2027. Set three years after the main game, it adds a new protagonist and partner along with around 50 new Digimon. Echoes of Aincrad: Sword Art Online – Genesis Maidens arrives this winter as the first DLC for Sword Art Online: Echoes of Aincrad, adding a story set on the early floors of Aincrad and bringing Mito into the fight.
Gundam Rogue Orbit launches on March 5, 2027. Its new gameplay footage centers on fast Gundam combat, weapon types, Tactical Skills, and a customization system that changes how mobile suit parts affect movement and fighting. Players can also customize colors or equip a MOD Skin based on the RX-78-2 Gundam.
Keeper, a surreal third-person puzzle adventure from Double Fine Productions, launches on PS5 on September 3. The wordless story follows an awakened lighthouse and a spirited seabird as they cross a forgotten island and head toward its center.
Maneater 2 is coming to PS5 in 2027. The sequel places a man-eating bull shark inside an ultra-luxury private island theme park, where it must eat, evolve, and escape an attraction built for human visitors.
Metro 2039 launches on PS5 on February 4, 2027. 4A Games showed the survival shooter running on PS5 Pro, with a single-player story about the mysterious Stranger traveling through post-apocalyptic Moscow across exploration, stealth, combat, and survival sequences.
Rev. NOiR returns with new gameplay footage and a 2027 release window. Konami’s RPG follows Asch and Finé as they try to stop the catastrophe known as the lightfall. Rhapsody in Scarlet is another new Konami action adventure, combining 1920s New York, jazz, magical beasts, and a mystery involving a mafia organization. Its protagonist, Magus Ellie Myers, uses magic and beast abilities in customizable combos.
The Eminence in Shadow: Phantom Echoes is the series’ first console game and is coming to PS5 in 2027. The roguelite action game focuses on the Seven Shadows and features an original story created under the supervision of series author Daisuke Aizawa.
Uncanyon is coming to PS5 in 2027 from Graceful Decay, the studio behind Maquette. Its puzzle-focused world is formed from converging realities, allowing players to combine different versions of the environment to solve challenges and reach forgotten ruins.
Until Dawn 2 launches on PS5 on January 28, 2027. Firesprite’s horror sequel sends the Dead True crew from Blackwood Sanitorium to Akishima Island, where their choices lead to consequences across the story.
W.P.C.A. World Phasebound Control Authority is a new action RPG coming to PS5 in 2028. Set in Seoul, it casts players as a Containment Agent who enters zones filled with bizarre supernatural phenomena.
Expansions and returning games add more to the calendar
Crimson Desert receives the Charting the Unknown expansion on PlayStation Store on October 15. The PS5 Pro footage follows Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane as they search for purpose and confront a wider range of action and adventure scenarios.
Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance launches on PS5 in 2027. A giant dragon’s arrival brings new monsters, Elder Dragons, hunting actions, mechanics, a new locale, and the next chapter of the Expedition Team’s story. State of Play Japan introduced the Skybound Eyrie area, the Boost Action, and Gundoraja. A Tokyo Game Show 2026 demo will feature a hunt against the new monster Arakeeta. Capcom also provided a closer look at the expansion’s new threats and tools.
Gran Turismo 7 will receive the two-part Spec IV update later in 2026. The October and December releases will add two circuits, 12 cars, and new modes including Online Drift Trials, Shuffle Races, and Family mode, which is designed for players with different levels of driving experience.
Saros will receive the free Zenith update later in 2026. Overlord Rush pits players against campaign bosses in succession while they compete against players around the world. Eclipse Layers adds a New Game Plus mode with new modifiers, progression options, and secrets. The update will also add accessibility features, including a slow game speed option.
Rematch is joining forces with Blue Lock on September 24, 2026. The PS5 collaboration brings the anime and manga series’ Egoists into Sloclap’s online multiplayer football game.
State of Play Japan added more announcements
Hosted once again by Yuki Kaji, State of Play Japan focused on upcoming games from studios in Japan and Asia. The presentation included new gameplay, announcements, and updates across a broad selection of projects.
Highlights included Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, the release-date announcement for Fate/Extra Record, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World, and The Eminence in Shadow: Phantom Echoes. Rematch showed its Blue Lock collaboration, scheduled for September 24, 2026.
Further announcements covered Where the Seeds Fall, W.P.C.A. World Phasebound Control Authority, Stupid Never Dies, SlashZero, Digimon Story Time Stranger, CONQ: Crown of No Quarter, and Daba: Land of Water Scar. Story trailers arrived for Rhapsody in Scarlet and Rev. NOiR, while Ghost of Yotei Complete Edition closed the Japan-focused presentation.
PlayStation Plus, controllers, and other announcements
PlayStation Plus received four additions during the shows. Mycopunk is a four-player co-op looter shooter coming to the Game Catalog later in 2026. Players control a squad of makeshift robots cleaning up a fungus-infected planet, collecting materials from mechanical enemies, and building new weapons. Premium Classics will add Mega Man X: Command Mission in September, followed by Dino Crisis 2 and the original Ratchet & Clank later in 2026. The monthly lineup can vary by region.
LEGO and PlayStation also announced a 1,911-piece replica of the original PlayStation console and controller. The set is built at close to a 1:1 scale, measuring 10.5 inches, or 26 centimeters, wide when assembled, and launches on October 1.
The doubleheader began on September 3 at 6:00 a.m. PT / 9:00 a.m. ET / 3:00 p.m. CEST / 10:00 p.m. JST. For regional reference, the first State of Play began at:

State of Play aired in English with Japanese subtitles. State of Play Japan was presented in Japanese with English subtitles, giving viewers a way to follow both broadcasts regardless of the show’s primary language. The PlayStation Blog announcement confirmed those language options and the original schedule.
Both broadcasts streamed live through PlayStation’s official YouTube streams page and Twitch channel, with State of Play Japan starting immediately after the first presentation. A direct YouTube player for the combined broadcast is also available below. Sony did not announce runtimes for either show, so viewers who wanted to watch the complete doubleheader needed to keep an open block of time available.
Co-streaming and VOD guidance
Creators who co-streamed the broadcasts or saved them as VODs needed to account for licensed music that Sony Interactive Entertainment does not control. Outside licensing agreements may affect co-streams and archived videos, so PlayStation advises omitting copyrighted music from recap videos or reposted clips.
