Final Fantasy VII Revelation puts its newest combat systems to work in a hands-on demo built around Vincent, Cid, and a dangerous trip through the Whirlwind Maze. A PlayStation Blog hands-on report from Tokyo Game Show 2026 details a PS5 session featuring both newly playable party members, the FITS system, and a boss battle against Jenova Death.
Square Enix has already scheduled the game’s April 8, 2027 PS5 launch. The demo offered an early look at how the final chapter will separate its expanded roster from the characters players already know.
The Whirlwind Maze mixes traversal with an unsettling atmosphere
Cid joins Cloud and the rest of the party at the beginning of the demo, bringing the group to eight members. Their route through the Whirlwind Maze involves shimmying along cliff faces, vaulting over ledges, and using parkour-style movement through a landscape lit by aurora-like ribbons.

Black-robed figures linger along the path while the wind moves through the cliffs, giving the area a threatening mood before the party reaches its deeper encounters. Dragon Riders and Gigas stand between the group and Sephiroth, who appears near the end of the demo before the Jenova Death battle begins.
Vincent builds power through guns and monster form
Vincent has two distinct ways to fight. His human form centers on ranged gunfire, with consecutive standard attacks improving his unique abilities from Blood Moon to Execration and then Retribution. Square fires his weapon, while Triangle activates those abilities, and the system does not require manual aiming.
Holding R1 transforms Vincent into a powerful beast that moves on all fours and tears into enemies with its claws. Holding Triangle in this form helps stagger foes more quickly. Monster form is unlimited, but the Chaos level rises over time and reduces Vincent’s maximum HP, giving players a reason to switch between his two styles instead of staying transformed throughout every encounter.
Cid turns aerial timing into attack power
Cid uses a spear and takes a more airborne approach to combat. Chaining Square attacks and pressing Square again when a blue aura appears leads into Dragon Spin, Hyper Dive, and Ground Pound. His reach lets him sweep through groups while staying above the action.

Triangle fires Target Spear, which can be charged to launch up to five spears at once. Pinning enemies with those projectiles strengthens follow-up abilities such as Skydive and Burst Spiral, giving Cid a clear setup-and-payoff pattern built around timing and positioning.
FITS gives Cloud a risk-and-reward summon option
FITS, short for Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear, adds four specialized uniforms named Warrior, Knight, Black Mage, and Summoner. Each one unlocks different abilities based on the equipped suit, allowing the same character to take on different combat roles.
Cloud began the demo with the Summoner FITS equipped. Selecting FITS from the command menu called in Ifrit, Shiva, Titan, and other summons for a limited period. Selecting FITS again while a summon was active triggered Pledge Roar, a high-damage attack that drains HP. The payoff is powerful, but using it at the wrong time can leave Cloud in a dangerous position.
Jenova Death forces the party to handle several threats
Jenova Death uses wide-area Fire attacks, including fireballs and scorching gusts that demand careful dodging or guarding. Partway through the fight, tentacles emerge and protect the main body. Each tentacle must be destroyed before the party can return its attention to the central target, and the appendages later begin spewing fire like flamethrowers.
Synergy Abilities and Limit Breaks help finish the encounter. Between Vincent’s form changes, Cid’s aerial spear attacks, and FITS-based summons, the demo presented a final chapter that gives its larger party several different ways to approach a battle.
