EA SPORTS FC 27’s Mid-November Update Will Tune Fullbacks, Kickoffs and Attacking AI
Title Update v1.2.0 will also improve offside awareness and automatic switching as EA continues to investigate collisions, high defensive lines and shot accuracy.

EA SPORTS FC 27’s first gameplay balance update is scheduled for mid-November, with changes to fullback positioning, kickoff defending, attacking runs and automatic player switching. EA outlined the planned changes and its first-month findings in its October gameplay notes.
The update follows a month in which EA held back on gameplay tuning while reviewing match data and player feedback. In late September, fullback positioning and kickoff scoring were still under investigation. Title Update v1.2.0 now targets both, alongside attacking AI and loose-ball switching.
EA says players are taking fewer shots but scoring more of the chances they create. Pass completion rates have risen even as players make slightly fewer passes, while manually controlled defenders are intercepting a little more often. Successful tackles are also increasing as players get used to FC 27’s greater emphasis on manual defending.
Players are trying more tactical setups and position-specific roles than they did in FC 26. EA says win rates across formations remain evenly distributed with minimal variance, even as the most popular formations change. The team is still monitoring formations that are more common in higher divisions as players develop counters to popular tactics.
What Title Update v1.2.0 will change
Fullbacks will hold their defensive line more consistently and track runs when there is a genuine attacking threat. Attacking players will better recognize the defensive line when making runs, while AI-controlled attackers will make more purposeful supporting runs and use space around the penalty area.
After kickoffs, the defensive line will hold a higher position, making it harder for opponents to move straight toward the box without facing pressure. Automatic player switching will also receive targeted fixes after a teammate completes a slide tackle, after a headed pass and after a shot misses the target.
EA describes the balance changes as targeted adjustments rather than a way to eliminate every unexpected outcome in a fast 11-on-11 match. The team also considers how play differs by mode and Rivals division, where preferences for manual defending and AI assistance can vary.
Further work remains under investigation, including high defensive lines that put too much pressure on opponents, collisions between players with different physical attributes, and the accuracy of specific shots alongside goalkeeper positioning.
EA will host a live Q&A with its gameplay developers on the official Discord server on October 30 at 4:30 p.m. GMT / 9:30 a.m. PT. What would you most want the team to address during the Q&A?
