Steam Made Its Personal Calendar a Full Store Feature

The feature uses playtime to personalize recommendations for the next 8 weeks, with filters for tags, wishlist status, ownership, and Early Access.

Steam’s Personal Calendar is no longer a Steam Labs beta. Valve’s October 23 update made it a full feature of the Steam Store, giving players another way to sort through the steady flow of upcoming releases.

A compact version appears on Steam’s front page. Selecting Explore more opens the full Personal Calendar page, which looks up to 8 weeks ahead and surfaces popular and niche games that are new or coming soon. Players can choose how many games appear, filter by genre and theme tags, show or hide games on their wishlists, and exclude titles they own or that remain in Early Access.

Recommendations rely mainly on playtime in the games each user plays most. A brief tryout has little effect, while spending time with a new favorite carries more weight. Valve adjusts the algorithm daily, although it says recommendations are unlikely to change much from one day to the next. Upcoming games appear as their release dates are confirmed.

The calendar’s suggestions are algorithmic rather than manually curated, and Valve says it does not sell placement on the Calendar or elsewhere in the Steam Store. To avoid a narrow filter bubble, the system can draw from a wider mix of genres and themes when a closely matched release is not launching on a given day. Valve outlined the recommendation approach and its paid-placement policy in its Steam update announcement.

Work on the Calendar also helped bring about a way for developers to list the date a game will leave Early Access for its version 1.0 launch. Valve says other active Steam Labs experiments are testing ideas involving discoverability, video, and machine learning.

Steam’s move toward personalized storefront recommendations also extends to discounts. Valve plans to end its curated Discounts & Events calendar in early 2027 and move toward personalized deals.
