Counter-Strike 2 Update Adds Hostage Hooks and More Control for Map Creators

The scripting changes also add resource-loading checks, console controls, and new ways to manage round rules.

Counter-Strike 2’s latest update gives custom-map creators new scripting tools for resource loading, hostage interactions, console variables, and round rules.

Scripts can now track hostage pickup, carrying, rescue, dropping, and kills, as well as check whether resources are loading or ready on the server and client. New top-level Console and GameRules exports also bring together controls for console variables, warm-up periods, team scores, and round termination. Valve’s Steam update notes specify that Console.SetConvar runs synchronously and is not restricted by sv_cheats. Methods that were moved or renamed remain available in their original locations, but are deprecated.

Counter-Strike 2

Counter-Strike 2 is a free-to-play multiplayer tactical first-person shooter developed and published by Valve. Released in September 2023, it is the fifth main entry in the Counter-Strike series and serves as a direct replacement for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on Steam. Two teams, Terrorists and Counter-Terrorists, compete in objective-based rounds across modes such as bomb defusal and hostage rescue. Built on the Source 2 engine, the game introduced volumetric smoke physics, revised weapon handling, and a new sub-tick server architecture. It inherited all cosmetic items from its predecessor and features both a map-specific Competitive mode and a numerically ranked Premier mode.
