The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered will give PS5 Pro owners a choice the current PS5 version cannot match, with Ray Tracing targeting 60fps and Performance mode aiming for around 90fps.
CD Projekt Red had already confirmed PS5 Pro support for the remaster, but the studio shared the technical details during a Gamescom livestream. Veteran graphics engineer and programmer Tim Green explained how the console’s extra power will affect both graphics options when the game arrives on September 29.
The current PS5 release offers Ray Tracing and Performance modes. On PS5 Pro, the Ray Tracing option will raise its 30fps cap to 60fps, allowing the enhanced lighting and reflections to run without the lower frame rate found on the existing version.
Performance mode will take a different approach. It previously targeted 60fps, but the remastered version will remove that cap. Green said the mode should settle somewhere around 90fps when played on a display with VRR and support for high refresh rates.
CD Projekt Red is also using the PS5 Pro’s PSSR upscaler. According to Green, the technology will let the team push frame rates while keeping the image clear, so players will not have to choose between sharper visuals and smoother play as often.
The upcoming free remaster upgrade is scheduled for September 29. Until then, the new PS5 Pro modes remain one of the clearest reasons for owners of Sony’s more powerful console to revisit Geralt’s adventure.
