WARDOGS could eventually move beyond its King of the Hill battles, with BULKHEAD already holding a playable PvE prototype and considering an extraction mode that would feed gear back into the main game. The team presented both ideas as long-term possibilities rather than confirmed launch features.
The tactical shooter is scheduled to enter Steam Early Access on September 10, 2026. Its current identity centers on the King of the Hill format, but BULKHEAD is already thinking about how WARDOGS could grow on the way to version 1.0.
During an interview at Gamescom, BULKHEAD CFO and Senior Game Director Mark Pinney and CEO and Executive Producer Joe Brammer discussed the game’s longer-term plans with Insider Gaming. The studio does not plan to publish a traditional roadmap, which means future additions may arrive through announcements rather than a public schedule.
WARDOGS already has a rough PvE prototype
When asked about adding PvE content, Brammer revealed that BULKHEAD has more than a loose idea. The team has a playable prototype built around missions, although he described its current condition as rough. That prototype is not being presented as finished content, but it shows that the studio has already tested what a mission-based version of WARDOGS could look like.
Brammer said this type of content could arrive through downloadable content or expansions. BULKHEAD’s broader plan is to support one WARDOGS account over several years, adding new game modes as the game continues to grow.
An extraction mode could share gear with King of the Hill
Brammer was more careful when discussing extraction gameplay. He did not want to define WARDOGS as an extraction shooter, but he offered a possible mode built around looting gear and escaping with it. Successful runs could place that equipment in a player’s WARDOGS account, where it could then be used in the game’s King of the Hill mode.
That concept would give the extraction mode a direct connection to WARDOGS’ existing multiplayer foundation instead of turning it into a separate experience. Still, BULKHEAD described it as an example of what the game could receive later, not as a confirmed feature with a launch window.
For now, the team is focused on bringing the core game into Early Access on September 10. The PvE prototype exists today, while the extraction idea remains at the planning stage, so both modes could change considerably before BULKHEAD decides whether to release them.
