Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Brings 3 Superweapons Into Its Finale

Gamescom footage shows Ruby, Emerald, and Ultima Weapon, new FITS combat roles, and a Spring 2027 launch across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is scheduled to launch in Spring 2027 across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Square Enix’s official Final Fantasy VII Revelation page lists a simultaneous release during the original Final Fantasy VII‘s 30th anniversary year. Unlike Remake and Rebirth, which were PlayStation exclusives for stretches, the remake trilogy’s final chapter is planned for all four platforms at once.

The timing was revealed during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026, which also featured the game’s second major trailer. Its footage puts the planet’s giant Weapons at the center of the finale while offering a closer look at the battles and systems waiting ahead.

Ruby Weapon, Emerald Weapon, and Ultima Weapon all appear in the footage. Ruby Weapon and Emerald Weapon were optional superbosses in the original Final Fantasy VII, and Revelation seems to preserve part of that identity through difficult endgame encounters. The trailer places these enormous creatures amid destruction tied to Sephiroth’s plan to bring down the approaching, world-ending Meteor, as he nears godhood.

Emerald Weapon’s Battle Looks Very Different

Emerald Weapon previously appeared only briefly in a Rebirth cutscene, but its role in Revelation seems much larger. One sequence appears to depict a real-time submarine battle against the creature, expanding on its place in the original game.

The footage also seems to hint at combat involving an airship, although it does not confirm exactly how that encounter will work. Ruby Weapon and Ultima Weapon receive shorter teases, but their presence makes clear that these familiar threats will play a major part in Revelation.

New Travel Options Open Up the World

Cloud will have several ways to move through the game’s larger world. Chocobos, parachutes, and a grappling hook will help him reach different parts of the environment, while the Highwind will allow the party to travel freely between regions such as Wutai, Mideel, and the Northern Continent.

FITS Adds Job-Style Combat Roles

Cloud and Tifa’s FITS abilities also returned in the trailer. Cloud wore a Warrior outfit, while Tifa used Black Mage gear. Short for Function Integrated Tactical Suitwear, FITS works like a job system layered over the trilogy’s existing weapons and Materia. Each outfit grants different abilities and its own moveset, giving the characters new combat roles without replacing the series’ established equipment systems.

The story picks up after Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, with Meteor approaching the planet and Sephiroth nearing godhood. The party will rely on the Highwind as it crosses the regions standing between Cloud and the trilogy’s conclusion.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation has no more precise launch date beyond Spring 2027, leaving players with a season to look forward to while the game’s biggest details remain under wraps.

Revelation‘s ending remains under wraps too. Director Naoki Hamaguchi has said it could stay close to the original or take the story in another direction, as covered in our report on the game’s ending.
