Final Fantasy Resonance Will Have Gilgamesh and Ultima Weapon Waiting Beyond the Main Story
Square Enix's upcoming HD-2D RPG will also include Secret Dungeons, tougher Mighty Foes that reward Magicite, collectible hunts, minigames, and crossover Visions.

Final Fantasy Resonance will give completion-focused players plenty to do after the main story, including battles against two familiar Final Fantasy threats: Gilgamesh and Ultima Weapon. Square Enix revealed the bosses alongside new information about the game’s world, characters, Visions, and optional activities.
The upcoming RPG is built from the now-offline mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. It brings back that game’s protagonists, setting, and story threads while reshaping the experience for offline, single-player play in a pixel-art HD-2D style.
Gilgamesh and Ultima Weapon Will Guard Optional Content
Players will face powerful enemies known as Mighty Foes while awakening Visions. These battles are tougher than encounters found during the regular campaign, and defeating them helps Visions learn more skills. Some hidden monsters will also reward players with Magicite, a material used to unlock and upgrade the Final Fantasy heroes who appear as battle companions.
Final Fantasy Resonance will also feature Secret Dungeons that sit outside the main story. These areas will offer a much harder challenge than the campaign, giving completionists another reason to keep building their party after finishing the core adventure. Optional content will be spread across the world map, while collectibles, optional Visions, and minigames add more side activities as well.
Gilgamesh will appear repeatedly during the adventure, continuing his long-running Final Fantasy habit of turning up whenever a giant sword and an even bigger headache are needed. His storyline will eventually lead to a final battle on a massive bridge, accompanied by a track bearing his name.
As players reach the endgame, they will also face Ultima Weapon. Square Enix positions the boss as one of the toughest encounters in the game, with the fight demanding careful preparation and a party ready to perform at its best. Square Enix has not yet detailed the exact requirements for reaching either fight.
Final Fantasy XVI eventually received two expansions that added more demanding content, while Final Fantasy Resonance is building its optional threats into the core adventure from the start.
The World and Vision Roster of Final Fantasy Resonance
The new world details include the Zoldaad Empire, a military nation that houses the Fire Crystal, and Mysidia, a magical civilization tied to the Water Crystal. Two of the newly detailed characters are Jake, the leader of a rebel army fighting the empire, and Sakura, Mysidia’s sage.
Returning Final Fantasy heroes will appear as Visions, with previously announced characters such as the Warrior of Light, Cloud, and Terra joined by Firion, Onion Knight, Vaan, Lightning, Noctis, and Clive. Clive comes from Final Fantasy XVI and was added shortly before the global version of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius ended service.
The roster will also include new characters created for Final Fantasy Resonance. Amelia is a maid from the empire, Camille is a mercenary, Wilhelm is an imperial general, Victoria is a black mage, and Ayaka is a white mage who previously served as a healer for many Final Fantasy Brave Exvius players.
Square Enix has not said how every Vision will be unlocked, but the game’s original characters and returning heroes should give the cast a mix of story-focused and optional content. More information about the progression systems and Secret Dungeons may arrive before launch.
