Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Will Include More Guidance as Square Enix Considers Customization Options

Director Naoki Hamaguchi said the extra direction is meant to help players unfamiliar with open-world games, while Square Enix considers customization options after some experienced players found it too strong.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will include more on-screen guidance than Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth, giving players clearer direction through its large world. Square Enix is also considering ways to let players customize how much of that guidance appears after some experienced open-world players found it too strong.

Director Naoki Hamaguchi said the goal is to help people who are unfamiliar with open-world games move through the adventure without getting lost. Following the prompts should still lead players into gradual exploration as new locations and activities become available.

In a September 21, 2026 post, Hamaguchi wrote, “In REVELATION, we’ve included more on-screen guidance than in our previous titles so that even players who are not familiar with open-world games can enjoy the experience without getting lost.” He also acknowledged feedback from experienced players who said the guidance was “a bit too strong.”

Square Enix has not explained how much control players will receive. Hamaguchi only said the team was considering options for customizing the presentation of the guidance, so it is not yet clear whether players will be able to reduce it, disable it entirely, or adjust separate parts of the system.

Different guidance settings could matter in a game built around side quests and extended exploration. Some players will want a clear route from one objective to the next, while others would rather discover locations and activities with as little direction as possible. Giving both groups control would let the world support different kinds of play without removing its larger-scale exploration.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is scheduled to launch on April 8, 2027. The guidance settings are still under consideration, but Hamaguchi’s comments confirm that Square Enix is thinking about how to make the trilogy’s final chapter more approachable without forcing every player to follow the same path.
