Windrose ship guide: the quickest way to leave the starter boat behind
Finish three early missions to unlock the Ketch, then build the right stations if you want to add upgrades and cosmetics later.

How do you get a ship in Windrose? Very early on, the game strands you on a deserted island after taking your vessel away, and the first real goal is to get back on the water as fast as possible.
At the start, you do receive a small boat, but it is only a rowboat and will not hold up for long. If you want a proper ship, Windrose asks you to finish three early missions first, and those are How My Shore Adventure Began, I Need a Bigger Boat, and Rescuing the Crew.
Those quests work as the game’s opening tutorial and each one pushes you a bit closer to open-sea travel. Once you clear all three, you receive a Ketch, which is the first real ship most players will use.
From there, the focus shifts to upgrading and personalizing your ride. You can build a Shipwright station to improve your ship, and a Wharf lets you change the flag, sails, and hull color while also adding things like cannons.
Later in the game, blueprints for larger ships, including the Brig, can be bought in Tortuga, though they cost a lot and ask for plenty of grinding before they become realistic. If you are still working through the opening stretch, a Windrose fast travel guide can help cut down the backtracking once you start moving between islands. For now, your first priority is simplem and that is to finish the opening missions and claim the Ketch.
Once you have a ship, the sea opens up a lot more possibilities, from following the main quest to chasing treasure. Share your thoughts in the comments, and if you want more gaming coverage, follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, Instagram.
