Windrose fast travel, explained: how to unlock it and move around the map
You can start using fast travel once you craft the right items, place points, and unlock permanent locations in bigger settlements like Tortuga.

Windrose gives you a lot to do before fast travel becomes useful, but once it opens up, moving around the world gets much easier. If you have been following the game’s growth, the demo’s Steam Next Fest run and wishlist milestone are covered in our Windrose coverage.
To fast travel in Windrose, you need fast travel points on your map. Those points are built from a Fast Travel Bell, which you craft at a workbench.
To make a Fast Travel Bell, you need:
- 10x Copper
- 3x Rope
After that, you can build a fast travel point with:
- Fast Travel Bell
- 20x Wood
At first, you need at least two fast travel points before you can move between them. Once you have a boat or ship, you can also fast travel to a point from the helm. You can place up to ten points in a single world, so you will need to choose your spots carefully. If you want to change that setup later, you can destroy older points and make room for new ones.
Some larger settlements also unlock fixed fast travel points as you find them. Tortuga has a permanent point on the beach, which makes it easier to reach the trading posts when you are carrying loot.
That means the system grows with you. Early on, it is a simple way to cut down on long trips, and later it turns into a real travel network across the world.
If you have been spending too much time sailing from place to place, fast travel is the answer. Share your thoughts in the comments, and if you want more game updates, follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, and Instagram.
