XBOX Joins Rockstar’s Response to Alleged Grand Theft Auto VI Gameplay Leaks

Xbox CTO Scott Van Vliet said the company was working closely with Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games to protect creative works and intellectual property, without naming Grand Theft Auto VI or confirming whether the cooperation included Take-Two's subpoena.

Xbox says it is working with Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games to protect creative work and intellectual property after a series of alleged Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay leaks tied to CYBERLEEK.

Large amounts of alleged Grand Theft Auto VI material appeared online Tuesday afternoon, including the full Leonida map and footage that appeared close to final. A later leak suggested that the person using the name CYBERLEEK had access to a playable build.

CYBERLEEK also threatened to release more leaks unless Take-Two changed its current digital-only plan and produced physical discs. Rockstar responded with DMCA takedowns, while Take-Two subpoenaed Microsoft and Discord in an effort to identify the leaker.

On August 21, 2026, Xbox CTO Scott Van Vliet made the statement publicly, although he did not mention Grand Theft Auto VI by name. The comment arrived as Rockstar and Take-Two dealt with claims involving leaked gameplay material.

Van Vliet wrote, “We are working closely with Take-Two and Rockstar Games to support efforts to protect creative works and intellectual property.”

Van Vliet’s wording confirms Xbox’s cooperation with the two Grand Theft Auto VI companies, but it stops short of explaining what Microsoft is doing. The statement does not mention the leaked build, the Leonida map, or Take-Two’s subpoenas. It also does not explicitly confirm that Xbox is cooperating with the subpoena or authenticate the leaked material. Take-Two has not publicly commented on the alleged leaks, while Rockstar’s response has included DMCA takedowns.

The alleged leaks have been associated with CYBERLEEK, and Rockstar’s marketing plans remain unchanged. No announcement has indicated that the company will alter its upcoming promotional schedule.

Grand Theft Auto VI’s August preview remains on schedule

The next major presentation is still scheduled for August 27, 2026. The August 27 Netflix presentation will premiere at 3 p.m. ET before the extended look reaches Rockstar Games’ YouTube channel and the Grand Theft Auto VI website at 9 p.m. ET.

For now, the Xbox statement marks the clearest public indication that Rockstar and Take-Two are receiving support as they work to protect the game’s unreleased material.
