Diablo Animated Series Will Come to Netflix as Blizzard Teases 2 More Adaptations

Blizzard has announced an animated Diablo series for Netflix, bringing the dark fantasy franchise to television while the company hints that Overwatch and Warcraft adaptations could also be in development.

Blizzard president Johanna Faries revealed the project during the BlizzCon 2026 Opening Ceremony on September 12, 2026, at the Anaheim Convention Center. Faries presented the animated series as the first announced project in a partnership between Blizzard and Netflix, although the announcement did not include footage or a release date.

Faries said she had repeatedly asked for permission to share more about the project and promised updates once Blizzard could provide them. The announcement confirms the animated format while leaving the series’ timing and creative direction for a later reveal.

Faries also pointed to Overwatch and Warcraft, telling viewers to watch for news about adaptations of both franchises. Those projects were teased rather than confirmed as shows, leaving Diablo as the only adaptation formally announced in this presentation.

Faries described herself as a Diablo player and said she was looking forward to seeing the project bring Sanctuary’s dark setting to life. Blizzard has not yet announced a cast, showrunner, release window, art style, or story direction. It also has not said whether the series will adapt a familiar story from the games or introduce a new conflict within Sanctuary.

Sanctuary gives the adaptation plenty of material to explore, from the war between the High Heavens and the Burning Hells to the Prime Evils and the fall of Tristram. The first Diablo launched in 1996, making the announcement part of the franchise’s 30th anniversary year.

Netflix has previously released animated video game adaptations such as Castlevania and Arcane, but the Diablo series remains early in development. More information will be needed before its direction, tone, and connection to the games become clear.
