Netflix Says GenAI Helped Make Around 300 Movies and Shows This Year
The streamer said artificial intelligence was used mainly in post-production, as well as search and recommendations inside its app.

Netflix said it used generative AI on roughly 300 movies and shows during 2026, with the technology appearing across parts of production and inside the streaming service itself.
The company shared the figure in a shareholder letter on Thursday, July 16. The letter, obtained by Kotaku, said Netflix had used AI tools at stages ranging from early concepts to filming and editing. Netflix presented the tools as a way to lower production costs and finish work faster.
“We are increasingly leveraging these tools to deliver higher quality output more quickly and at a lower cost than traditional methods,” the letter said. “In some cases, productions would have had to leave out key shots and sequences in the absence of GenAI technology.”
Netflix said its current use of AI was focused mostly on post-production and had appeared in “roughly 300 of our titles” in 2026. The company did not provide a complete list of those projects.
Which Netflix productions used AI?
The shareholder letter identified Glory, The American Experiment, and Brasil 70: A Saga do Tri among the productions that used the technology.
The American Experiment is a five-part documentary series executive-produced by Tom Hanks and directed by Brian Knappenberger. Netflix said GenAI was used to enhance crowds, historical battle sequences, and world-building establishing shots in the series.
The company also described AI tools as part of Netflix’s app experience. Search and the homepage use the technology to improve title discovery, while additional systems examine member preferences to tailor recommendations.
That means viewers may encounter AI-assisted work both in the content they watch and in the way Netflix presents that content. The company’s letter did not identify every title affected or provide a breakdown of how many projects used AI in production compared with post-production.
Netflix’s use of AI comes as the streamer continues to expand its film and television catalog, including animated releases such as a recent weekly streaming record.
