
Modern Warfare 4 will launch on Friday, October 23 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2, which means PS4 and Xbox One are out this time.
The reveal lands after weeks of talk around Infinity Ward’s next project, including Modern Warfare 4 chatter. Activision announced the game during a livestream on YouTube: livestream. Infinity Ward is leading development, with Beenox on PC and Digital Legends on Switch 2.
Infinity Ward said the new Call of Duty is set in Korea and is being built for current-generation hardware only. At release, it will include campaign, multiplayer, and DMZ. The multiplayer package will feature 12 core 6v6 maps on day one, plus Gunfight maps, Big War maps, and Kill Block, a mode built around more than 500 map configurations.
The studio also outlined Ballistic Authority, a weapon-first tech stack that ties together aiming, handling, audio, visibility, and combat perception. On progression, players will be able to choose between Classic Prestige and Regular Prestige, while the new Gunny system will help assemble loadouts around a preferred playstyle. DMZ is coming back with changing weather, shifting objectives, and hostile forces moving through the zone.
The campaign story follows a fictional North Korean leader who invades South Korea, triggering a wider conflict across the peninsula. A Guardian piece noted that a Korean journalist thought the setup could land badly in the region: The Guardian.
