Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Will Get 2 Story Expansions Focused on Sephiroth and Vincent
The two expansions are currently listed for April 2028, while combat items from the pass will be available when the base game launches on April 8, 2027.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will receive 2 story-focused DLC expansions, with one titled Sephiroth and the other Vincent & the Turks. The game’s April 8, 2027 PS5 launch remains ahead of both releases, which were confirmed after its appearance at the September 3, 2026 PlayStation State of Play.
A PlayStation Blog announcement confirmed that the Story Expansion Pass will grant access to both story-centered DLC releases. The post did not provide further information about their plots or the gameplay planned for either chapter.
More specific timing appears on the Steam listing for the Story Expansion Pass. Both Sephiroth and Vincent & the Turks are currently listed for April 2028, within a broader release window covering Winter 2027 through Spring 2028. Neither expansion has an exact launch date yet, so April currently reads as a placeholder rather than a confirmed day.
The pass will be sold separately and will also come with the newly announced Premium and Premium Plus Editions. The base game is required to purchase and play the story content, while the pass’s combat items will be available when Revelation launches. Both editions include 24 hours of early access to the main game, in-game consumables, and an in-game accessory.
Premium Plus adds a digital art book and mini soundtrack to those benefits. The announcement did not disclose pricing for the pass or either edition.
Director Naoki Hamaguchi said fan and media requests helped convince Square Enix to pursue the additional stories, and the team chose to reveal them before the base game launches. Hamaguchi previously described Revelation as the definitive ending for the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy and indicated that future DLC would need to tell stories outside the main narrative. He has also suggested that character-focused DLC would be more likely to introduce new material than revisit existing lore.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is scheduled to launch simultaneously on April 8, 2027, for PS5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind will both become fully playable after remaining guest characters through the end of Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth. The Combat and Exploration trailer also shows both characters using their movesets in active battles.

Vincent’s unfinished business points back to Lucrecia
Vincent only joined the party late in Rebirth, where he remained a guest alongside Cid. His history with Sephiroth, however, was already presented as unfinished business. Vincent also revealed that he had once worked with the Turks and served as a personal bodyguard for Professor Hojo and an unnamed female scientist.
That scientist is tied to Lucrecia Crescent, one of the most important figures in Sephiroth’s backstory. Final Fantasy VII establishes Lucrecia as his biological mother, while Hojo is strongly implied to be his father. Dirge of Cerberus expanded the history through flashbacks showing Vincent and Lucrecia’s feelings for each other during their time with the Turks.
The unresolved triangle between Vincent, Lucrecia, and Hojo has led some fans to propose that Vincent, rather than Hojo, could be Sephiroth’s biological father. Square Enix has never officially debunked the theory. The remake trilogy has also clarified that Advent Children is canon to its broader story, giving longtime fans another reason to consider how older character threads might carry into Revelation.
Revelation’s DLC plans leave the theory unconfirmed
The Vincent and Sephiroth pairing is enough to revive the theory, but the announcement does not confirm that either DLC will address Sephiroth’s parentage. The character stories could instead follow the broader approach Hamaguchi has described, adding new material outside Revelation’s main narrative.
Both chapters are planned for after the main game, with the current April 2028 listing leaving plenty of time between Revelation’s launch and the additional stories. Players still have to wait for exact release dates and further information about what the Sephiroth and Vincent chapters will contain.
With Sephiroth and Vincent receiving separate story content, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is planning post-launch material around two of the remake series’ most recognizable characters. More information about both expansions is due at a later point.
