Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Campaign Trailer Arrives for Tokyo Games Show
The trailer arrives ahead of Campaign Early Access on October 16 and the full game's October 23 launch.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 now has its Tokyo Games Show campaign trailer, putting Captain Price on the run while North Korea invades South Korea and former allies hunt him. The official campaign announcement also introduces an unknown weapon being moved toward an enemy known as The Archer.
Price’s campaign begins after the assassination of General Shepherd in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. Task Force 141 has been disbanded, leaving Ghost and Gaz with orders to capture or kill their former captain. CIA Station Chief Kate Laswell remains in contact with Price, although she is becoming wary of his methods.
Valeria Garza, the leader of the Las Almas Cartel also known as El Sin Nombre, becomes an unlikely ally. Price has little reason to trust his former rival, but the growing threat forces them to work together while the remnants of Task Force 141 close in.
North Korea’s full-scale invasion of South Korea creates a second campaign thread. Private Park Hyun Jun and his young squad fight on the front lines while U.S. and South Korean marines join the ground combat and an amphibious assault. Their missions eventually intersect with Price’s pursuit and the forces driving the invasion, pulling the separate storylines into a wider conflict.
Mads Mikkelsen’s unnamed antagonist
Mads Mikkelsen appears near the end of the trailer as an unnamed antagonist positioned against Price. His character promises that everything Price cares about will die, adding a personal threat to the war already unfolding across the Korean Peninsula. In the trailer exchange, he tells Price, “I’m going to make you cry for mercy. When everything and everyone you care for dies in ways you can’t imagine. The things you’re going to see…”
Price answers with a shorter warning of his own, saying, “I’ve seen a lot of things.” The trailer does not reveal the character’s name or backstory, but the exchange frames him as a direct antagonist rather than a quiet cameo. Mikkelsen is already familiar to game players as Clifford Unger in Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding, giving Infinity Ward another recognizable performer for a role whose motives remain hidden.
Infinity Ward’s campaign moves through Korean trenches, New York streets, Paris, SAS night raids in Mumbai, and occupied cities that players will help reclaim. The trailer uses in-engine cinematics and broadens the conflict beyond Price’s manhunt, with several long-running storylines moving toward a dramatic conclusion.
The Archer and the unknown weapon
Alongside the manhunt and the Korean conflict, a weapon of war is being delivered to The Archer. The trailer has not revealed what the weapon can do or why the enemy is trying to obtain it, leaving its role in the wider conflict unclear.
Modern Warfare 4‘s story therefore moves between North Korea, South Korea, and Price’s rogue unit. It combines large-scale war missions with more focused tactical operations, following the beta’s playable Entrenched campaign mission. Campaign Early Access begins October 16
Campaign Early Access will begin on October 16, one week before launch, for players who digitally pre-order or pre-purchase the Standard Digital Edition or Vault Edition. The benefit will be available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5, Battle.net, Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2.
Modern Warfare 4 will launch on October 23, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC through Battle.net, Xbox on PC, Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2. Until then, Price’s loyalty, Valeria’s cooperation, the South Korean squad’s fight, Mikkelsen’s unnamed antagonist, and The Archer’s weapon remain central pieces of the campaign’s larger conflict.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is a first-person shooter and the follow-up to Modern Warfare III (2023), continuing the rebooted Modern Warfare storyline.
