Modern Warfare 4 Intel Roundup Covers the Beta, DMZ, and Kill Block

Modern Warfare 4 launches October 23, while Campaign Early Access starts October 16 and the first Early Access Beta opens at 11:00 AM PT on August 21.

Activision and Infinity Ward’s official Forward Operating Blog currently brings together the main announcements, videos, and development updates for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. The newest beta preview points to 6v6 Multiplayer, Ground War, Kill Block, and a Campaign segment, while older entries fill in the game’s DMZ mode, launch plans, preorder content, and story setup.

The first beta weekend will feature more than 6v6 matches

The first beta weekend is scheduled for August 21–25, 2026. Call of Duty: NEXT will begin at 9:00 AM PT on August 21, followed by the Early Access Beta at 11:00 AM PT. The first test will run until 10:00 AM PT on August 25. Weekend Two will be an open beta from 10:00 AM PT on August 28 through 10:00 AM PT on September 1. The second weekend will raise the level cap and add more content, including Call of Duty: Warzone Resurgence.

The first weekend will include regular Multiplayer, the debut of Kill Block, progression rewards, and a complete Entrenched Campaign mission, described as a first for a Call of Duty Beta. In that mission, players join infantry and armored vehicles in an assault intended to stop enemy forces from destroying a strategically important nuclear power station. Separate beta details also confirm seven Multiplayer maps and an early look at Call of Duty: Warzone content in addition to the regular Multiplayer test.

The open beta will also support Nintendo Switch 2. Players can find the full early-access and open-beta breakdown in the Modern Warfare 4 beta schedule. Preloading began on August 20 and is live on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5, Steam, and Battle.net. PC players should enable TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot before trying to join the test. Players who participate in both weekends will only need one Beta installation, with updates and progression carrying forward. Early Access requires a redeemed Beta Code or a pre-order or pre-purchase of either the Standard Edition or Vault Edition. Call of Duty: NEXT is planned to provide more information before the test begins.

Weekend One progression will cap at Level 20, while Weekend Two raises the limit to Level 30. Reaching Level 20 unlocks the first five Beta rewards, including the “Dread Tiger” Operator Skin for Reece, while Level 30 awards the “Beta Forged” Weapon Blueprint for the Han 86 Assault Rifle. Cosmetic rewards earned during the Beta will carry into the full game at launch. Twitch Drops will also offer Emblems, Calling Cards, and Charms for watching Call of Duty: NEXT and Beta broadcasts.

Weekend One’s Multiplayer lineup

Weekend One will include six Core 6v6 modes: Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed, Search and Destroy, and the new Inflation. Each elimination in Inflation increases a player’s fortune while also making that player a more valuable target.

The first weekend’s five Core 6v6 maps are Hotel, Silkworm, an overgrown Indian bus depot, Cachette, and Lotus. Hotel takes place across snow-covered rooftops at New York’s Hotel Times West, Silkworm sends teams through a crowded South Korean shopping district, Cachette is a French hideout beside a rail terminal, and Lotus is a battle-scarred Korean fishing village filled with tight streets, damaged buildings, and abandoned armor.

The featured playlists will include Quick Play, Open Moshpit, Kill Block, and Mobility Course, giving the Beta a mix of standard objective matches, broader rotations, and dedicated spaces for movement practice and Gunfight battles.

The Mobility Course will provide a dedicated training facility for the game’s expanded movement and combat systems. Guided tutorials lead into timed tests covering movement, weapon handling, and marksmanship, giving players a place to improve their completion times and ratings throughout the Beta.

Create a Class unlocks at Player Level 4, with room for up to 12 Custom Loadouts. Operators are assigned to individual loadouts, and the Beta includes 21 Operators, some of them tied to the Vault Edition. Multiplayer XP unlocks weapons, Equipment, Perks, Field Upgrades, Killstreaks, and the first five Beta rewards.

The official beta preview is accompanied by footage showing the broader scope of Weekend One.

Kill Block is the main Multiplayer focus

Infinity Ward’s latest Kill Block material comes from Fanatics Fest, where players saw an Alpha build of the mode and shared their first reactions. Kill Block is presented as a Multiplayer experience built around combat spaces that can change from one match to the next.

A July video also frames the mode around three creators, three slabs, and a map designed to play differently across matches. In the Beta, Kill Block will change its layout every two rounds by assembling a new Combo from three interconnected Slabs. Each Combo receives a randomized shared Loadout, keeping the available equipment in motion from round to round.

Gunfight will appear in its classic 3v3 form and in a new 10v10 variant exclusive to Kill Block. Teams can win by eliminating the opposition or capturing the Overtime Flag.

The hub’s Campaign preview focuses on Losing Ground, an Early Access mission from the upcoming story.

Another entry covers the beta rollout, Call of Duty: NEXT, the Fanatics Fest recap, Nintendo Switch 2 preorder details, and a Serialized Weapon Camo preorder challenge. The game’s broader campaign direction will move between North Korea, South Korea, and Captain Price’s rogue unit while balancing large-scale war missions with smaller tactical operations, as detailed in the Modern Warfare 4 campaign overview.

The Kill Block hype video adds a quick promotional look at the mode.

Warzone Resurgence arrives during Weekend Two

Call of Duty: Warzone Resurgence will join the Beta during Weekend Two on the new Zodiac map. The battle will take place around the DRC Advanced Systems drone assembly and manufacturing headquarters, with offices, rooftops, tunnels, and shoreline areas providing the combat spaces.

Players will use default Warzone loadouts, survive while teammates redeploy, complete Contracts to shorten return timers, and outlast opposing squads.

Infinity Ward has shown the game’s weapons, vehicles, and DMZ

Modern Warfare 4 will also include the Dreadnought, a drivable vehicle designed by Aston Martin. The official material presents it as a heavy machine built for surviving the circle and controlling fights.

Infinity Ward’s fifth From The Ward episode looks at the process behind the game’s weapon design.

Weekend One will offer 14 of the 19 Multiplayer weapons across nine weapon classes. The remaining five unlock as the level cap rises to 30 in Weekend Two, while three more weapons can be accessed through Default Loadouts or the Campaign mission, bringing the Beta total to 22. The returning Gunsmith will handle customization, and the Firing Range will let players test builds before entering a match.

Fully leveling supported weapons unlocks Apex Attachments with special gameplay effects that do not use an attachment slot. The Han 86 can transform into the Han X20 Skybreaker, whose system is capable of firing 20mm airburst rounds that detonate at a chosen distance. The X-58 Nyx can become the X-58 Void, adding a brass catcher and an extended wrapped suppressor while hiding enemy death markers and obscuring directional hit indicators. Attachment progression is shared across compatible weapons, so unlocking an attachment on one weapon makes it available on other weapons that support it instead of forcing players to repeat the same grind for every gun. Gunny can also recommend builds using attachments already unlocked.

Loadouts will include nine Tactical Equipment items, 11 Lethals, and 11 Field Upgrades, while the Pick 3 Perk System allows one Perk from each of three slots. Players can equip up to three Killstreaks in each Custom Loadout, with eight available during Weekend One.

The official Beta patch notes also detail Smart Streaks, which let objective actions build the Killstreak Meter. Kills continue to count in every mode, while capturing and holding Domination flags, controlling the Hardpoint zone, and planting the Data Spike also contribute to a streak.

Activision is also using the Beta to compare its revised matchmaking system with an Open Matchmaking option. Players will be able to try both approaches before Modern Warfare 4 launches.

The separate Kill Block briefing expands on the mode’s changing combat spaces and its place within Modern Warfare 4’s Multiplayer lineup.

Campaign Early Access will begin on October 16, 2026, one week before the full release. The story follows the conflict that erupts after North Korea launches a full-scale invasion of the Korean Peninsula, with Price operating outside the system as the campaign moves toward a new status quo for the series.

DMZ takes place in the Hajin Exclusion Zone, a combat area shaped by the aftermath of the Campaign. Its structure combines Story Missions, Dynamic Operations, player-driven encounters, and progression that carries from one deployment to the next, with escalation remaining a constant threat.

Infinity Ward’s fourth From The Ward episode examines the work behind the game’s sound design, including the process of turning real-world explosions into the audio heard in Modern Warfare 4.

A behind-the-scenes feature also covers the creation of the game’s key art and the filmmakers, actors, creators, and artists involved in presenting its world.

Launch, editions, and the original reveal

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will release on October 23, 2026. The game is being led by Infinity Ward, with Beenox supporting the PC version and Digital Legends working with Infinity Ward on the native Nintendo Switch 2 version. The announced PC options are Battle.net, Xbox on PC, and Steam, alongside Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2 versions.

The Vault Edition includes the Hostile Alliance Operator Pack with four Operator Skins, the Special Forces Operator Pack with four Operator Skins, five Signature Weapon Blueprints, one season of BlackCell, and a DMZ Deployment Bonus.

The Vault Edition trailer is available below.

The third From The Ward episode follows the process of turning Ghost and his equipment from early sketches into loadout content.

Infinity Ward has described the Multiplayer design around fluid movement, control, and player agency across maps and modes.

The first episode of From The Ward introduces the game’s new chapter, including the Korean front lines and Price’s conflict with the system that once supported him.

The original reveal trailer established the central crisis: North Korea launches an invasion of the Korean Peninsula, threatening to destabilize the wider world.

Finally, COD POD: Off Duty Ep. 002 is included among the official videos collected on the hub.

Modern Warfare 4’s beta, Campaign Early Access, DMZ, and October launch are all now on the calendar. Share your thoughts on the game’s current direction in the comments, then follow along on X, Bluesky, YouTube, Instagram, Steam, and Telegram.
