Rumors have begun to circulate, pointing to a compelling twist in the storyline of Elden Ring‘s post-launch content. This surprising information came to light through well-known FromSoftware insider Lance McDonald, who has a history of unearthing secrets from the developer’s workshop.
In a series of messages shared via Discord and subsequently posted on Reddit, McDonald divulged that the game studio originally had their sights set on creating two separate DLCs for Elden Ring under a season pass. As it turns out, FromSoftware, the developers of this beloved open-world action RPG, may have had different initial plans for the game’s DLC.
Elden ring was supposed to have 2 DLCs but From soft ended up merging them into one big expansion, has been in the works since at least Jan 2022

However, these two DLCs were reportedly fused into one colossal expansion in an unexpected turn of events. This larger-than-life expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, has been a work in progress since early 2022.
McDonald’s revelations did not end there. The existing Colosseums, now part of the game through free post-launch updates, were likely supposed to be components of the two intended DLCs. These Colosseums underwent significant cuts during their transformation, leaving tons of content that never made it to the final version.
The release date for Shadow of the Erdtree is still a puzzle, though conjecture hints it’s been developing for over a year. FromSoftware’s parent company has subtly indicated that the wait could extend into the next fiscal year, starting April 2024.
