Disney Is in Talks With Bungie and DICE to Find a Star Wars Battlefront 3 Partner, Grubb Says

The discussions point to possible partners, but neither studio is confirmed as the game's developer.

Lucasfilm is reportedly seeking a development partner for a Star Wars Battlefront follow-up, with Bungie and EA DICE named as candidates in a claim Jeff Grubb relayed from Quarterman on Game Mess Mornings. The rumor also circulated in a Reddit discussion. Neither studio has been confirmed as the developer.

Quarterman connected the search to Battlefront II’s renewed momentum, saying Disney had been encouraged by a sudden influx of players last summer and the game’s run at the top of PS4 sales charts for several months. Grubb relayed the claim at around 22:09 in the video.

EA DICE would be returning to a series it developed in 2015 and 2017, with direct experience in Battlefront’s large-scale, class-based combat. Bungie’s shooter background comes from Destiny and Marathon. In September, the studio also outlined a broader direction for Marathon and a Destiny 2 restoration plan. Those histories point to different possible strengths, but they do not establish a design plan for a new Battlefront.

A DICE return would also bring the franchise’s difficult launch history back into view. Battlefront II’s launch loot boxes and progression system drew heavy criticism, including concerns that class equipment could create pay-to-win advantages. Familiarity with the series would not, by itself, settle how a new game handles progression.

The search fits Lucasfilm Games’ broader approach to partnerships. Executive Douglas Reilly has said the company is considering pitches from both larger and smaller studios, while still looking for experienced teams.
