ELDEN RING Patch 1.17.1 Blocks Free Tarnished Pack Items in Multiplayer

The fix removes duplicate DLC pickups from multiplayer sessions, although players can still trade Tarnished Pack items with people who do not own the pack.

ELDEN RING Patch 1.17.1 has closed a multiplayer loophole that let players obtain duplicate items from the $5 Tarnished Pack without purchasing it. FromSoftware confirmed that the update is now released and does not add any new content.

Before the fix, a player who owned the Tarnished Pack could enter a multiplayer session with someone who did not have the DLC. Under certain conditions, extra copies of pack-specific gear could then appear as pickups for the other player.

The paid pack includes the Idus Knight and Heavy Knight starting classes, new weapons, three Spectral Steed Attire options for Torrent, and NPC invasion events in Caelid and Leyndell. Version 1.17 had already added support for the DLC, as detailed in our Version 1.17 coverage.

Patch 1.17.1 removes the accidental duplicate pickups, but it does not prevent trading. Players can still exchange Tarnished Pack items with people who do not own the DLC, meaning the update targets the unintended multiplayer drops rather than every way the items can change hands.

Patch Notes for ELDEN RING Version 1.17.1

Version 1.17.1 is a narrow multiplayer fix. It addresses the DLC eligibility issue and contains no new weapons, classes, quests, or other content.

  • This update fixes an issue in multiplayer where, under specific conditions, DLC-specific items could be obtained when not normally eligible.
  • No additional content is included.
