Swen Vincke Says BioWare Will Be Missing From Future RPG Discussions
The Larian CEO reflected on the studios' shared history and thanked BioWare's team for its games and stories.

BioWare’s planned closure leaves a gap in future RPG conversations, Larian CEO Swen Vincke said, reflecting on the studios’ shared history and crediting BioWare with helping make RPGs big.
Vincke said Larian and BioWare began their journeys in the games industry around the same time. He called it almost unimaginable to discuss upcoming RPGs without BioWare, thanked the team for its games and stories, and wished its members well.
This is not something I ever expected to see.
Larian and Bioware started their trajectories in the games industry at the same time and Bioware led the way in making RPGs big. It's almost unimaginable that we're now entering an era were the name Bioware won't show up anymore… https://t.co/TMl6NZMXG4

EA’s Oct. 21 announcement said BioWare would close and early development on the next Mass Effect would end. The announcement came alongside EA’s wider plan for 400 job cuts following its August acquisition.
BioWare developed the original Baldur’s Gate and its sequel, Shadows of Amn. Larian later took over the series with Baldur’s Gate 3, released in 2023. BioWare’s other RPG series include Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and Neverwinter Nights.
