At least 250 people are working on the game, and the team is aiming to move it into alpha. Development continues on Ubisoft Montpellier’s Voyager Engine.
Earlier multiplayer concepts ranged from crews exploring multiple planets to groups of two or three players. Between 2019 and 2022, plans also emphasized a connected world with seamless matchmaking. A social hub called The Third Place was intended as a gathering spot between quests, with Destiny as a comparison. Players were also expected to create a customizable character who could travel and work alongside the heroes of Beyond Good & Evil.
People close to the project also describe continued support from Ubisoft management, even as uncertainty remains among some team members.
On Jan. 30, 2026, creative director Fawzi Mesmar said his team and Beyond Good & Evil 2 were unaffected by Ubisoft’s restructuring.
