Unrailed 2: Back on Track’s Experimental Build Shortens the Rope Again
Version v-995-4f67746 also changes late-game speed scaling and fixes a freeze in this week's time challenge.

Unrailed 2: Back on Track received another experimental build on September 22, 2026. Version v-995-4f67746 shortens the Rope Engine by 1m, changes how its speed bonus grows during later stations, and fixes a freeze in the current time challenge. The prior pass, the September 21 experimental build, also added separate Endless highscore sections and adjusted time-mode rewards.
The Rope Engine had already received a shorter segment length in the previous experimental build, which reduced it by 0.5 tiles per connected player. The new adjustment gives the mechanic another round of balance tuning, making team spacing even more important during a run.
Speed scaling also works differently in the endgame. The increase previously reached a cap based on station progress, but it now continues to rise later in a run at a slower rate of 3% per station. The update also adds assets for the Rope Engine, although the changelog does not specify what those assets contain.
Players who want to test the build must choose the experimental branch on Steam and disable crossplay in the game’s online settings. Indoor Astronaut detailed the changes in its Steam announcement.
Unrailed 2: Back on Track v-995-4f67746 Patch Notes
The latest experimental pass focuses on Rope Engine assets, rope length, endgame speed growth, and a freeze affecting the current time challenge.
- New: Assets for the rope engine
- Balance: -1m rope length for the rope engine
- Balance: The speed increase used to be capped to a linear function (in stations) at some point. Now it still increases in the endgame but slowly (3% per station)
- Freeze fix: Freeze fix in this weeks time challenge
Will the shorter Rope Engine make late stations easier to control, or will it send more crews racing back toward the locomotive? Share your take in the comments and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, Instagram, Steam, and Telegram.
