GTA 6’s Criminal Profile meter may stay broken for players who refuse to engage

A TGG preview describes four main states, separate profiles for Jason and Lucia, and a permanent Shattered outcome, while an Edge feature adds nonlethal options and a story connection.

Grand Theft Auto VI’s Criminal Profile may track how players approach crime without forcing them into one preferred style. A TGG preview describes four main states for Jason and Lucia, plus a separate Shattered outcome that cannot be changed. An Edge feature adds nonlethal choices and a connection between the profile and the story.

In the TGG preview, the system reflects how players handle crime rather than acting as a progression gate. Rockstar does not want players punished for their preferred playstyle or forced to improve a reputation score before they can continue through the story.

TGG names Professional, Aggressive, Violent, and Psycho as the four main states. Staying Professional reportedly involves “restraint and control,” including avoiding injury or murder unless the situation demands it.

  • Professional reflects controlled behavior and limited unnecessary violence.
  • Aggressive and Violent represent progressively harsher approaches to dealing with other characters.
  • Psycho sits at the most extreme end of the four standard states.
  • Shattered is a separate state where the meter cracks and cannot be changed.

Players can intimidate enemies or incapacitate them rather than kill them, and everyday behavior also affects the profile. The system can account for restraint as well as violence, instead of treating every encounter as a choice between killing an opponent and ignoring the profile.

What the Criminal Profile may affect

An Edge feature describes the scale as running from Professional to Irredeemable, without listing all its categories. TGG’s preview names four main states and describes Shattered separately, and the Edge feature does not explain how Irredeemable relates to those labels. It also says a violent profile can influence how Jason and Lucia’s story unfolds, though it does not specify whether that means changed missions, endings, or NPC behavior.

The Shattered outcome is the most unusual part of the system. TGG’s account suggests it is meant for players who have no interest in engaging with Criminal Profiles, rather than someone trying to reach a better rating. Players can also disable profile notifications, and Jason and Lucia can have different states instead of sharing one combined status.

An August info dump had already described the possibility of a persistent record for both protagonists. The newer details add clearer category names and a stated story connection, while leaving the specific plot effects open.

Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson told TGG that the game’s connected systems should let players roleplay as heavily or lightly as they want. “You can still cause as much carnage as you can imagine,” Nelson said, while leaving players to decide whether the consequences make them change their approach.
