Marvel’s Venom Reportedly Remains in Development, but Its Announcement Date Is Unknown

NateTheHate2 said on Sept. 4 that Insomniac's long-rumored project was still active, without providing a reveal window.

Marvel’s Venom, the rumored PS5 spin-off from Insomniac Games, is still in development, although its announcement timing remains unknown. NateTheHate2 said on Sept. 4 that the project remained active based on his latest check, giving the long-quiet game a small sign of life.

“Venom is very much still in development upon last check. As to when it’ll be announced, I don’t know,” NateTheHate wrote.

An earlier comment from the voice actor for Miles Morales suggested that the project had been canceled following Tony Todd’s death. Todd voiced Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, so the conflicting comments have added uncertainty around whether Insomniac’s version of the character will return in a standalone game.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Set Up a Different Venom

Insomniac’s take on Venom also has a different foundation from the character’s usual comic-book story. In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the Symbiote is presented as a possible cure for Harry Osborn’s illness, which leads Harry to become Venom instead of Eddie Brock.

Venom first appeared in the Insomniac leak, where the project was included on a roadmap of planned releases. Timelines can change over several years, so the latest update does not suggest that the game is close to launch. It does indicate that the project has not disappeared from Insomniac’s plans.

Marvel’s Wolverine Remains the Nearer Release

For now, Insomniac’s confirmed PS5 release is Marvel’s Wolverine, which is scheduled for Sept. 15, 2026. The game has already reached gold status, giving Insomniac a clear near-term launch before any potential Venom reveal.

Marvel’s Venom remains a project to watch rather than a formally announced game. Until Sony or Insomniac shares more, continued development is the only firm update available.
