S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2’s Final DLC Won’t Follow Cost of Hope’s Formula

GSC Game World has not revealed the follow-up's story or launch window, but the studio said players should not expect it to resemble Cost of Hope.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl will receive a second story expansion that takes a very different path from Cost of Hope. GSC Game World also described it as the game’s final expansion, although the studio is keeping its actual subject under wraps.

During a Gamescom interview with Insider Gaming, Ievgen and Maria Grygorovych said the next DLC would be unlike the first expansion and stressed that players would not know what to expect. They did not disclose the story’s focus or provide a release window.

The Zone’s next story is still a mystery

GSC Game World has continued building out the game since its late-2024 launch through patches and new content. Cost of Hope launched on August 20, 2026, alongside the free Update 2.0, giving the game its first major story expansion and a broad refresh for the base experience.

Cost of Hope centered on a direct conflict between two of the series’ most recognizable factions. That gave the expansion a clear opposing-sides structure, but GSC’s description of the second DLC points toward a different kind of story rather than another version of the same conflict.

For now, the studio has shared only the broad direction. There is no announced launch date, story outline, or explanation of what will make the final expansion stand apart from Cost of Hope. With the first DLC now available, the next chapter of the Zone remains one of the game’s biggest unanswered questions.
