MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls opened Japan sales with 2,814 retail copies

The physical tally excludes digital sales; MARVEL Tōkon missed Japan's top 30 in week two, while Alinea Analytics estimated 485,000 first-week Steam and PS5 copies worldwide.

MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls sold 2,814 physical PS5 copies in Japan during its first week, with Famitsu’s Japanese sales chart estimating the figure. Game Data Library’s analysis cites the same retail total. Digital sales are not included, and the number covers Japan’s physical market only.

The fighter then disappeared from Famitsu’s top 30 in its second week. It was unable to match the 1,444 copies sold by Super Mario Wonder‘s Switch 2 Edition, highlighting how quickly its physical presence faded from the chart.

Game Data Library’s comparison places the opening below most other Arc System Works fighting games in Japan. That includes most Guilty Gear and BlazBlue launches, while even Under Night In-Birth sold more during its own opening period. The comparison excludes highly niche releases such as DNF Duel, making Fighting Souls the weakest Japanese launch among the studio’s broader fighting-game lineup.

Game Data Library also placed Fighting Souls below every previous Marvel vs. Capcom game and at less than half the retail sales of Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics. Even if digital purchases made up 70% of the game’s sales, the overall result would still sit well below previous Marvel vs. Capcom titles. The physical version of Fighting Souls also arrived late.

Japan’s physical tally is only one slice of the game’s worldwide performance. Alinea Analytics estimated 485,000 copies across Steam and PS5 during the first week in an analysis of the game’s PC problems. That estimate includes digital sales and PC players, while Famitsu’s number covers PS5 discs in Japan alone. It is a broader external estimate rather than an official digital-sales total.

Following its August 6, 2026 launch on PS5 and PC, the game also recorded a mixed response on Steam. Its store page showed 46% of English-language reviews recommending it, while SteamDB recorded a launch peak above 24,000 concurrent players and fewer than 5,000 daily concurrent users by August 21.

Steam activity fell after the launch peak

Retail, Steam, and the broader sales estimate measure different parts of the game’s audience, so none provides a complete official sales total. Together, they point to a quiet opening in Japan’s physical market and a sharp drop in Steam activity after launch, with digital sales still unreported.
