Starship Troopers: Extermination Update 12 will expand X-11 and add the Morita III

The scheduled August 20 update will also introduce new weather hazards, Galactic Front objectives, server improvements, and a wide set of weapon changes.

Starship Troopers: Extermination Update 12 is scheduled to become available at 10 AM PT (GMT-7) on August 20, 2026. The update will expand the X-11 map, add six new mission variants plus a new Operation Stalwart Sanitation mission, introduce the Morita III rifle, and bring a long list of weapon, server, interface, and gameplay changes.

Offworld Industries published the full Update 12 patch notes on Steam. The release follows our earlier look at the August roadmap, which outlined X-11 as the center of the next Galactic Front operation.

X-11 is getting more than extra scenery. Troopers will have new areas to defend, changing visibility conditions to fight through, and a fresh Galactic Front campaign called Attack on X-11. The Morita III will be available as a Galactic Front reward, while existing Morita weapons will receive several rounds of tuning.

What Update 12 adds to X-11

The expanded area contains new spaces for combat and base construction, including an ARC build zone. It also adds the Terrarium, abandoned research labs, Bug cages, a Weather Station, and a Quarry with a large excavation area.

New environmental conditions are designed to make X-11 harder to read during a fight. Meteor Storm can remain active for an entire mission, while regular X-11 missions may receive shorter Meteor Shower events. Atmosphere Failure creates a permanent sickly green fog in its dedicated mutator, with a lighter version appearing during normal weather rotations.

The patch also adds the Toxic Sunrise and Hydro Hydra Supporter Packs, new daily missions and Service Records, better party information, and server-side performance work aimed at environment collision and Bug AI.

Starship Troopers: Extermination Update 12 Patch Notes

Update 12’s biggest gameplay changes affect the X-11 mission pool, environmental hazards, the Morita weapon family, TAC Fighter Strikes, and M11-E Babar encounters. The full official notes are reproduced below in their original order.

X-11 Map Expansion

New Missions

  • 3 AAS
  • 1 ARC
  • 1 Horde
  • 1 Hive Hunt

X-11 Expansion

Bug activity has been expanding across the surface of X-11. Zones that were previously quarantined are now swarming with Bugs. This is unacceptable. The Federation has set X-11 as the focus of the next Galactic Front and has made the reclamation of the lonely asteroid outpost a top priority.

The newly rediscovered areas contain a number of lost Federation assets. The vast tunnel network contains abandoned research labs and Bug cages strewn about. The Terrarium replicates a planetary biosphere and was used to conduct research on Arachnid physiology and evolutionary adaptations. The Weather Station contains Federation technology that will be instrumental in managing the sudden changes in X-11’s environmental conditions. The Quarry contains a large new play space that contains a large excavation area. This new area contains enough room to house a new base location, but the terrain can cause unique challenges.

X-11 will include a new mission area for Troopers to explore and defend for the Federation. The new area will feature a new ARC build zone, 3 new AAS missions, 1 new Hive Hunt mission, and 1 new Horde mission.

X-11 Operation Stalwart Sanitation

The increased activity has caused a build up of Arachnid corpses in need of immediate disposal. The Teefang Array mission area of X-11 will be getting 1 new OSS mission.

New Galactic Front – Attack on X-11

After months of Federation-assured peace the disgusting Bug menace has decided to crawl out of their holes and attack another one of our worlds.

X-11 is under attack! The Teefang Array is a critical piece of the Federations long range comms network and cannot be allowed to fall into Arachnid claws and maws. The Sky Marshal has ordered the immediate deployment of all Vanguard Units to the lonely moon. SOG teams have already been deployed to control the situation but only we can bring permanent stability.

The new Galactic Front will be launching with the release of Update 12. Follow the story as it unfolds, earn Victory Points, earn powerful new Rewards, and compete with other Companies for the top spot on the Leaderboards!

Morita III

Vanguard procurement has finally approved the production and immediate deployment of the advanced Morita III rifle. The rifle’s combat performance was cited as the primary factor behind the successful defense of Roku San, with all Mobile Infantry units equipped with Morita IIIs surviving up until their subsequent dismemberment and the eventual defeat of Roku San.

Base characteristics pair high capacity and blisteringly fast fire rate making this weapon an attractive option for the trigger-happy Trooper. And the lauded Integrated Grenade Launcher brings a practical rocket-assisted punch. Federation engineers have been celebrated for managing to cram all these capabilities into a technically portable platform.

The unique ammo modifications available to the Morita III allow it to stand apart from other assault rifles; Featuring Hammer Rounds for increased stun and stagger, and Heavy Rounds for increased stopping power.

This new weapon will be available to all Troopers as a Galactic Front reward.

New Environmental Conditions

X-11 Dynamic Weather

Calamity in space! The X-11 Teefang Array has been thrown into chaos, and only the Bug could be to blame! Catastrophic planetary instability has caused innumerable new environmental conditions that Troopers will need to deal with. Luckily, no one is better suited than the Deepspace Vanguard.

Spontaneous sublimation of surface rock has caused an increase in surface fog and dust. Troopers should expect moments of severely reduced visibility that could affect combat readiness.

Meteor Storms

Disturbances in orbit have dislodged the once stable planetary ring causing a significant increase in meteor activity.

Federation Astronomers have confirmed that these meteors are expected to be light and random, but periods of increased activity are possible. Regardless of expected threat, Troopers are reminded to keep their visors peeled, and be mindful of falling space rocks. As a friendly reminder, any casualties resulting from natural phenomena will not be eligible for the Mobile Infantry unexpected death payout.

X-11 will now include the ‘Meteor Storm’ mission mutator, causing a permanent Meteor storm that will constantly strike throughout the entire mission duration. Alternatively, during any regular X-11 mission a Meteor Shower may strike randomly across the map for a short duration.

Atmosphere Failure

The environmental factors have also caused increased strain on the X-11’s life support systems. The various labs and subterranean tunnels rely on these systems to keep the base functioning.

When these life support systems fail it may cause a sudden build up of gases. While these gases are not considered dangerous, they will greatly reduce visibility. During an atmospheric failure, Troopers will need to contend with dramatically increased fog levels, and a sickly green coloration.

X-11 will now include the ‘Atmosphere Failure’ mission mutator, causing a permanent sickly green fog to hinder troopers for the entire mission duration. A lighter version can also be encountered for short durations during the regular rotation of X-11 weather.

Tuning

Armory Tuning

TW-205-E Morita II

Slight tweaks to the firing timing are intended to make the Morita II a little easier to keep on target and get a tighter shot spread.

  • Damage increased from 86.5 → 91.5
  • Magazine Capacity increased from 30 → 36
  • Ammo increased from 360 → 432
  • Burst Fire Rate increased from 0.092s → 0.074s
  • Fire Rate (rounds per minute) increased from 457 → 476
  • Muzzle Velocity increased from 60000 → 70000
  • Underbarrel Grenade Launcher Ammo increased from 8 → 16
  • Underbarrel Grenade Launcher Direct Damage increased from 500 → 800
  • Improvements to recoil and handling; more visual recoil, less deviation
  • Adjustments to cosmetic handling; more sway, heavier spring weight, softer dampening and oscillation

Morita MK3 SAW

Revitalized Federation training regimes are focused on improving Trooper’s shouldering techniques, allowing them to control recoil better.

  • Added new Mastery levels, can now reach Mastery level 12
  • Moved Armory Unlock to level 12, was level 10.
  • Added Heavy Barrel internal modification at level 10
  • Added Reserve Magazines magazine modification at level 11
  • Improvements to recoil and handling; less recoil while standing, less maximum recoil while moving, less recoil displacement, less visual recoil, less deviation
  • FMJ Rounds is now the Default Ammo (No gameplay change)

New Modification – Heavy Barrel

A heavier barrel improves recoil control and tightens maximum recoil bloom during sustained fire. The Heavy Barrel allows troopers to fire in longer bursts without affecting their accuracy.

  • -50% Recoil Deviation

Morita Carbine

Minor modifications to the Morita Carbine to help differentiate the Carbine from other ergonomic-focused close range weapons. The Carbine is getting improved damage at mid ranges to help improve the weapon’s consistency in a larger range of combat situations.

  • Damage increased from 45.5 → 50
  • Range increased from 40m → 64m
  • Damage falloff improved, damage increased from 36.4 at 72m → 36.6 at 74m

Weapon Modification – Compensator

A miscalibration in the diversion of exhaust gas wasn’t having as much of an impact on recoil as intended. Federation engineers have made improvements to the Compensators to provide a more noticeable improvement to vertical recoil.

  • Added muzzle climb recoil mitigation
  • Adjustments to recoil and accuracy; less recoil, less visual recoil, but more accuracy deviation

Weapon Stats UI Improvements

The weapon stats displayed in the Loadout Selection have not always been reliable at explaining the differences between different weapons. We’ve made adjustments to make weapons consider more of their attributes when determining their Low, Medium, or High ratings of Accuracy & Handling.

  • Handling is more affected by Move Deviation. Weighting from Recoil is more affected by actual recoil (not just the cosmetic camera) and more impacted by higher Fire Rates
    • Machine Gun Handling is even more affected by Move Deviation and Hipfire Recoil. Weighting from ADS Recoil has been slightly reduced
  • Accuracy is no longer affected by Move Deviation, only Shot Deviation

This means that fast firing weapons will have a greater effect on their Handling stat. And Accuracy won’t immediately treat poor on-the-move accuracy as poor overall Accuracy, instead this characteristic will be reflected in the Handling stat.

Mission & Gameplay Tuning

TAC Fighter Strikes

  • Adjusted TAC Fighter Strikes. Airstrikes now require a minimum Bug threshold before they will be sent. If there are not enough Bugs, the airstrikes will pause until the threshold is reached.
  • Adjusted Airstrike frequency from 30s → 45s
  • Fixed an issue where there could be multiple TAC Fighter kill counters visible simultaneously.
  • Added a display screen for Fleet Relays. They now display Active or Offline status.

M11-E Babars

  • M11-E Babars will now be encountered in Missions without requiring the ‘Babar Drop‘ mutator. Babars will now spawn more consistently in longer missions, but at significantly reduced frequency and with a reduced concurrency.

Highlights

  • Fixed building issues where structures could not be placed in intended locations and structures overlapped.
  • Fixed a number of issues where weapons were sometimes not reloading, or reloading would become stuck.
  • Fixed an issue where the primary firemode would play the underbarrel visual and sound effects. This could cause the primary fire to shoot Grenades or Plasma rounds.
  • Switching weapons or being incapacitated will retain the last used firemode.

UI

  • Added all Re-enlist Rewards to the Re-enlist screen.
  • Fixed an issue where the reviver’s name would incorrectly display the wrong reviver when multiple Troopers consecutively revive a downed Trooper.
  • Fixed mousing over the gold helmet preview keeps the gold helmet while previewing other visors.
  • Fixed an issue where Galactic Front narrative text was incorrectly right justified, causing inconsistent formatting with shorter text.
  • Improvements to the talking portraits for Galactic Front narrative; reduced the intensity of the overlay which was causing reduced brightness.

Audio

  • Fixed low ammo warning clicks not playing on weapons with underbarrels

Art & Animation

  • Improved lighting in X-11. Fixed a number of issues where “orbs” of light would appear when volumetric fog is enabled.
  • Improved presentation of the Objective timers when paused. They will blink when paused so they will look more intentionally frozen rather than bugged.
  • Fixed an issue that kept the Galactic Front planet view loaded and visible in the Play & Mission Select screens. This could cause inconsistent lighting of the Planet views in the main menu.
  • Fixed an issue that kept the Sparta planet view permanently loaded after being viewed. This caused duplicate directional lights and multiple planet views to be loaded simultaneously, which could cause degraded main menu performance.

Gameplay & General Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where the ‘Bug Batteries’ mutator wouldn’t activate ‘Plasma Bombard’ events in all Missions.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented ‘Plasma Bombard’ events from triggering on X-11. Plasma Bombardment will be able to appear in any of the regions with sky access (the craters).
  • Fixed an issue with AAS ‘Resupply & Wait for orders’ FOB Objective not telling troopers to build the FOB.
  • Fixed an issue with AAS ‘Gather Ore’ Objectives does not reset progress when getting back-to-back ore objectives on AAS. Ore Objectives will require you to construct the next FOB or wait for the next FOB to be deployed before Ore Objectives will begin.
  • Fixed an issue where ‘Bugs Inbound’ mutator would not spawn bugs at the certain base locations.
  • Fixed an issue with Tanker weakpoints being harder to hit than intended.
  • Fixed player getting stuck in a broken state when trying to activate engineer abililty or throwing grenade while switching firemodes.
