War Thunder Plans Easier Decal Sorting and More National Markings

The next major update is planned to add an owned-only decal filter, refreshed roundels, and new markings for Swiss, Dutch, Malaysian, Finnish, and Indonesian forces.

War Thunder will receive several decal-focused quality-of-life improvements in its next major update, including a filter that will show players only the decals and decorations they already own. Gaijin Entertainment also outlined a large batch of new national markings and updates to older roundels in its Steam announcement.

Owned Decals Will Be Easier to Find

The upcoming filter should make vehicle customization less cluttered. Players will be able to limit the decal and decoration menus to items already in their collections instead of sorting through every available option.

Gaijin said the feature came from player feedback following an earlier decal-focused post. It is planned for the next major update.

Older Roundels Are Getting a Cleanup

Some of War Thunder’s roundel decals date back to before the game’s public release. Their heavy scratches and weathering made them look less suitable for use as clean national insignia, so the development team is reducing those effects across the older designs.

The refreshed roundels are planned for the next major update, although Gaijin warned that some may arrive later if the work takes more time. New roundels are also in progress for air forces that do not currently have them, including Venezuela and Uruguay. Modern versions of India’s and the Irish Air Corps’ roundels are planned as well, alongside their existing World War II-era variants.

New Decals for Swiss, Dutch, and Malaysian Forces

Gaijin is also preparing markings for nations with fewer decal options. The Swiss Air Force collection will include World War II and post-war designs, with emblems featuring fish, cats, witches, and birds. Several fish designs are tied to units based in Meiringen near the River Aare.

Dutch Ground Forces will receive more practical markings, including a NATO vehicle identification strip and the marking used by the 1st Army Corps on the front fenders of many Dutch tanks. Additional unit emblems are also planned.

The Malaysian Air set will focus mainly on tail markings, though players will be able to place the decals elsewhere after unlocking them. The designs include big cats, snakes, and birds of prey.

These are only some of the markings planned for the next major update. Gaijin is also working on decals for Finnish aviation and Indonesian ground forces and aircraft. The announcement did not provide a release date for the update.

War Thunder’s customization options keep growing, and the owned-only filter should make the expanding decal collection much easier to manage. Share your thoughts on the planned markings in the comments, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, and Instagram.
