Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s PC version received a major graphics mod on July 17, 2026, as modder dddd5 released Shader Injector 2.0. The update adds a wide range of visual options, including revised lighting, improved reflections, experimental global illumination, and a new ocean shader.
The updated lighting shaders improve shading throughout the game, while the revised screen-space reflections provide broader coverage and work with both rough and glossy surfaces. The mod also includes experimental support for Screen-Space Global Illumination and ambient occlusion, which can add more convincing light bounce and contact shading to environments.
A new ocean shader is still being refined
Shader Injector 2.0 introduces a work-in-progress ocean shader with stronger wave detail, underwater light patterns, chromatic dispersion, depth blur, and improved screen-space and fallback reflections. It will work across much of the game’s ocean, although some water surfaces will not use it at release because Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth relies on several different water shader variants.
The modder plans to add more water types in future updates. The current ocean effects are also still being tuned, so their appearance may change as development continues.
More control over the final image
A modified post-process shader gives players control over brightness, contrast, color, and several tonemapping options. It also adds experimental automatic exposure, letting users adjust the final image to match their preferred presentation.
Players can download Shader Injector 2.0 from its Nexus Mods page. The installation video below covers the setup process, while the second video shows the mod’s visual changes.
Shader Injector 2.0 gives PC players a long list of adjustable rendering effects, but several of its more ambitious features remain experimental. That makes the mod a good fit for players who enjoy tuning their games, especially those willing to adjust settings while the ocean and other shader work continues.
