Final Fantasy Resonance Will Make Its Visions More Than Summons

Each companion brings attacks and passive bonuses, then unlocks more abilities through mastery earned in battle.

Final Fantasy Resonance‘s Visions are built to do more than deliver a flashy summon attack. Each can be equipped to a party member, adding magic or physical moves and permanent stat bonuses, as detailed in PlayStation Blog’s hands-on look at the Vision system.

The RPG is scheduled to launch on PS5 on October 22, with versions for Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC also planned.

Players find Visions at crystal shrines across Lapis. Each shrine introduces a hero through a short story and multiple-choice questions before unlocking that character as a combat companion. The full game will have 26 Visions, bringing together series regulars and characters introduced in Final Fantasy Brave Exvius.

The roster includes Sephiroth, Terra, the Warrior of Light, and Lightning, alongside returning heroes such as Cloud, Firion, and Clive. Original characters include Black Mage Tronn.

Each Vision starts with its own passive perks and attacks. Battles earn mastery points that unlock more bonuses and Vision-specific abilities, while repeated use raises a party member’s affinity with that Vision. Noctis, for example, begins with a 20% boost to attacks and access to Thunder or Blizzard. One early mastery bonus increases the equipped character’s Limit Burst gauge by 40% each time an enemy is defeated.

Visions also have roles that can fill gaps in a character’s abilities or double down on their strengths. Lasswell is a Breaker, but equipping Medic Leah gives him healing magic and the ability to pass his turn to an ally. Cloud is also a Breaker, making him a more direct offensive pairing. Lid’s Commando damage can instead be combined with Zidane’s Saboteur skills to disrupt and weaken enemies.

Their Resonance attacks provide a cinematic payoff in battle. After staggering every opponent by exploiting weaknesses and draining their stagger meters, players can choose a finisher from an equipped Vision, including Cloud’s Ascension Resonance. Espers remain separate from this system and act as traditional summons that join a fight for a limited number of turns.
