Ascend to ZERO, a time-bending action roguelike from Flyaway Games, launched on July 13, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and Xbox Cloud. The game is also an Xbox Play Anywhere title and is available on day one through Xbox Game Pass, according to the Xbox Wire launch post.
Every run begins with only 30 seconds on the clock. Players fight through waves of mechanical enemies, collect experience and gear, and try to build enough power before the timer reaches zero. Taking lethal damage removes more time, so survival and fast decision-making are closely tied together.
Time-Stop Turns Seconds Into Strategy
The game’s central ability freezes enemies, projectiles, and the countdown while the player keeps moving. That pause creates a brief window to gather experience, reposition, avoid attacks, or set up a stronger play. Releasing the ability resumes the action and triggers the Avatar’s skills and gadgets at once.

Weapons automatically target nearby enemies, leaving players to focus on movement, equipment, and timing. Dashes can open a path through a crowd, while a well-placed Time-Stop can reset a dangerous encounter. Positioning becomes just as important as the build assembled during the run.

Different Avatars, Bigger Builds
Progression can climb from level 1 into the hundreds of thousands during a single run. Stronger enemies provide better rewards, while weapons, chips, and gadgets push each build in a different direction. The selected Avatar also affects how stats grow, giving each character a distinct route through the game.

Flyaway Games also reworked the opening hours before launch. The team adjusted Avatar balance so players are not pushed toward one preferred choice, added difficulty settings, and built an in-game guide for the timed-run systems. The handbook received an overhaul as well, with systems, chips, and unlockables organized for easier reference.
Late Runs Lead to a Boss Fight
Later stages put more pressure on route choices. The map becomes more dangerous as a run continues, and some rewards disappear if players cannot reach them in time. The final stage moves into a boss encounter where the weapons, upgrades, and skills collected throughout the run are put to the test.

The game’s story follows the Chrono Child, a survivor sent through time after mechanical monsters emerge from a portal to the future. With fragmented memories and help from a mysterious aide, she must travel through a ruined world and confront the machines that destroyed it.
Ascend to ZERO is now available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and Xbox Cloud. It supports Xbox Play Anywhere and is included with Xbox Game Pass from launch.
