Hooded Horse sold more than 4.5 million copies, and this time no single game carried the load

Hooded Horse’s CEO Tim Bender says the small strategy-focused publisher sold more than 4.5 million copies across storefronts in the last 12 months, and the company added roughly 8.5 million Steam wishlists in the same period. Bender shared the figures in a LinkedIn post this week, framing the numbers as proof the publisher’s success no longer depends on a single breakout hit.

Bender compared this year’s breakdown with 2024, when Manor Lords dominated Hooded Horse’s performance. Last year the developer’s medieval city builder accounted for about 60 percent of copies sold and 40 percent of wishlist adds. This year, Bender says, no single game represents more than 18 percent of copies sold or more than 12 percent of wishlist additions – a much wider spread across the catalogue. When one title shoulders the bulk of sales, the company wears the label of its biggest hit. Bender’s point is that Hooded Horse now has enough breadth to be called more than just the “Manor Lords publisher.

The LinkedIn post is the primary source for the figures. For anyone who wants a refresher, Manor Lords is currently part of a Hooded Horse sale, which helps explain how much visibility that game has had for the publisher. Hooded Horse’s roster lately includes hits such as Manor Lords and 9 Kings, with more strategy projects like Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era on the way. Bender framed the company’s role as spreading risk and supporting developers so multiple titles can perform steadily instead of hinging on a single viral success.

It’s a tidy bit of publishing math: diversify the catalog, lose the identity tied to one product, and keep the revenue engine running even if one title slows down. For Hooded Horse, the numbers suggest that strategy is paying off.

Manor Lords

Manor Lords

Manor Lords is a strategy game that allows you to experience the life of a medieval lord. Grow your starting village into a bustling city, manage resources and production chains, and expand your lands through conquest.

Inspired by the art and architecture of late 14th century Franconia, Manor Lords prioritizes historical accuracy wherever possible, using it to inform gameplay mechanics and visuals alike. Common medieval tropes are avoided in favor of historical accuracy, in order to make the world feel more authentic, colorful, and believable.
