Battlefield 6 custom search will put you in the nearest match rather than making you wait, devs say

Battlefield 6 players who’ve been frustrated by the custom search getting them something wildly different from what they picked got confirmation this week that the behavior is intentional. The system will broaden its search rather than make you sit through a long timer, according to the team, which matters because it directly affects how long you wait and what match you actually join.

Global community manager Kevin Johnson offered “a little bit of context” on Twitter, saying the Custom Search prioritizes your selection but then “expand the scope of its search and work down its list to find the next available match with other alternatives.” His explanation boils down to this: the feature aims to get you playing quickly, rather than waiting for a perfect match.

Producer Alexia Christofi also asked players on Twitter whether they would use a toggle that lets you wait for an exact match. She said developers have “definitely discussed internally” a switch to allow players to opt into staying, while acknowledging it’s a tricky balance between speed and precision.

There still isn’t a traditional Battlefield 6 server browser for official match rotation. Portal serves some of the same functions for custom content, but it won’t put you into every official server running standard maps and modes.
