Peak’s French Language Setting Used to Crash the Game Due to a Quirky Code Line

It’s always a bit wild how one tiny line of code can bring a whole game to its knees. Take Peak, the co-op climbing sensation from Aggro Crab. The devs recently revealed that if you tried playing the game in French, it would just crash immediately. The culprit? A line of code telling the game to “Frenchify” itself.

Aggro Crab, known for titles like Another Crab’s Treasure and Going Under, made Peak as a quick project to reignite their creative fire and dodge burnout. When it unexpectedly sold over one million copies in just six days, the team realized they needed to add some polish, including localization for languages beyond English.

But localization came with a catch. A note in the game’s Beta Branch 0.5.a update says simply: “Fixed crash using French.” Apparently, the game’s code contained a command that attempted to “Frenchify” it, which proved to be a fatal flaw. Now, you can finally play Peak in French without your console or PC throwing a tantrum.

The devs haven’t mentioned if any other languages caused similar issues, so it’s possible that French was the only one that sent the game into a tailspin. If you’ve been enjoying the frantic climbing fun of Peak, now you can do it in French without worry. Sadly, despite fan hopes, you still won’t be able to cannibalize other climbers, a missed opportunity if you ask me! But hey, it’s a solid experience overall.
