The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and The Witcher 3 Next-Gen have just received a new update that introduces official support for the highly anticipated REDkit modding tools. As a long-time fan of the Witcher series, I can say that this update is going to revolutionize the modding experience for this iconic RPG.
For those unfamiliar with REDkit, it’s a mod editor based on the game’s engine that promises nearly limitless freedom in modding the game. This powerful tool is built upon the same set of tools used by the developers at CD Projekt RED to create the game itself, allowing modders to access the most advanced resources available.
With the release of the May 21st update, support for REDkit, Steam Workshop, and DLC-sized mods has been officially added, opening up a world of possibilities for modders and players alike. These new features will be available for both the Original and Next-Gen versions of the game, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the fruits of this labor.
The Witcher 3 was originally released 9 years ago, and has seen a resurgence in popularity thanks to its Next-Gen update. However, one area that has been consistently criticized is its dated animation system. With the introduction of REDkit, modders will now have the ability to create new assets, scripts, quests, animations, and more. In theory, this means that we could see the development of total conversions and DLC-sized fan expansion mods, breathing new life into this beloved game.
In addition to the REDkit update, numerous other mods are worth exploring for The Witcher 3 Next-Gen. The Characters Reworked Project improves the quality of over 100 characters, while a must-have gameplay overhaul mod enhances the overall experience. You can even ride a Griffin with the help of a mod, and for those playing with Ray Tracing, there are mods available to improve the game’s visuals, such as the RTX Mirrors Mod and the mod that improves fire effects via Ray Tracing Global Illumination.
As a fan of The Witcher 3, I’m excited to see what the community creates with the power of REDkit.
