World of Warcraft Patch 12.1 Will Bring the Curse of Ula’tek on August 11
Patch 12.1 will begin unlocking on August 11, with the Venomous Abyss, Mythic+ Season 2, PvP Season 2, and later raid wings arriving through September 8; a D&D crossover follows in November.

World of Warcraft Patch 12.1, titled The Curse of Ula’tek, will arrive on August 11. Blizzard will follow the content update with Midnight Season 2 on August 18, giving players one week to begin working through the new zone, dungeon, Delves, and story content before the seasonal activities begin.
The announcement includes a large amount of content beyond the new raid and Mythic+ season. The Coiled Isle will add public events, Curse Surges, Cursed Fishing, Lairs, World Boss encounters, and a custom talent tree. A class tuning pass is also planned, although Blizzard has not shared the complete details yet.
Blizzard outlined the release plans in its official Curse of Ula’tek announcement. Blizzard also published a Midnight Season 2 schedule covering the staged launch of the raid, Mythic+, Delves, Prey, Lairs, and PvP content.
The Coiled Isle opens on August 11
The new outdoor zone sits off the east coast of Zul’Aman. Its story will continue the search for Zul’jan, with Zul’jarra pursuing her brother and others who need to return home. The island will also reveal more about its buried history and the forces sealed within it.
Players will be able to take part in several activities across the zone, including:
- Vaults of Atal’Utek
- Public events that build toward a boss encounter
- Curse Surges that summon rare elites at five rotating locations
- Cursed Fishing, which unlocks after defeating a rare elite in the area
- Three new Delves, including the Venomfall Deeps Nemesis Delve
- New Lairs with Normal, Heroic, and Mythic World Boss encounters
The Coiled Isle’s talent tree will offer player-power bonuses and quality-of-life perks. Some of those perks will reduce the effects of the venom found throughout the zone.
Curse Surges will also introduce a local story involving the tortollan sea captain Tokka. Players can gain reputation with his crew while learning to fish in the island’s cursed waters.
Patch 12.1 and Season 2 unlock schedule
Not every new system will wait until August 18. During the week of August 11, The Tidebound Grotto will open on World difficulty, Altar of Fangs will become available, and Heroic and Mythic 0 dungeons will begin using the new dungeon pool. Mythic 0 dungeons will initially reset weekly and drop item level 292 gear. Prey Season 2 will begin with Normal and Hard modes, while Delves will add Nemesis ? difficulty and all tiers without Bountiful Delves active yet.
Training Grounds: Arenas will also open during the week of August 11, and players can begin making progress toward Season 2 Great Vault rewards.
The main seasonal launch will take place during the week of August 18. The Venomous Abyss will open on Normal, Heroic, Mythic, and Raid Finder Wing 1 difficulties, while Mythic+ Season 2 and PvP Season 2 begin. Mythic 0 will switch to a daily reset, and Delves will add Nemesis ?? difficulty, Bountiful Delves, and Keys. Prey will add Nightmare mode and Curse of the Isle, while Season 2 Great Vault gear becomes available. The Tidebound Grotto will also gain its Normal, Heroic, and Mythic flexible-scaling difficulties.
The raid’s remaining releases will be staggered. Raid Finder Wing 2 and Story Mode will arrive during the week of August 25, Wing 3 will open during the week of September 1, and Wing 4 will follow during the week of September 8.
Altar of Fangs and the Venomous Abyss
Altar of Fangs will arrive as a three-boss dungeon. It will be available through Heroic and Mythic 0 difficulty when Patch 12.1 launches during the week of August 11, then join the Mythic+ rotation when Season 2 begins on August 18.
The new raid, Venomous Abyss, will also open with Midnight Season 2. It will contain eight bosses, ending with a confrontation against Ula’tek, an ancient creature tied to Zul’jan’s actions. Normal, Heroic, Mythic, and Raid Finder Wing 1 will be available at launch, with Story Mode and the remaining Raid Finder wings following on later dates.
The raid’s class armor sets include:
- Death Knight: Baleful Grave-Knight’s Crucible
- Demon Hunter: Abyssal Doomhound’s Pursuit
- Druid: Bark of the Enigmatic Dreamwatcher
- Evoker: Echo of Calamity
- Hunter: Skulking Viper’s Ambush
- Mage: Primal Leywarden’s Attire
- Monk: Guile of the Monkey King
- Paladin: Radiance of the Consecrated Flame
- Priest: Cosmic Penitent’s Raiment
- Rogue: Chosen Bloodslayer’s Hexweave
- Shaman: Ophidian Oracle’s Prophecy
- Warlock: Damned Necrolyte’s Shattered Restraints

Defeating Mythic Ula’tek awards the Primeval Skyfriend mount, with three mounts dropping from the encounter. The first 200 guilds worldwide to defeat Ula’tek on Mythic difficulty earn the Hall of Fame: Ula’tek Feat of Strength and the title “Famed Slayer of Ula’tek.”
The raid also includes housing trophies. The Venomous Abyss Argent Trophy drops for all raid members who defeat Ula’tek on Raid Finder or Normal. Heroic adds the Gleaming Trophy, while Mythic adds the Aureate Trophy as well.
Season 2 will add Bountiful Delves and allow players to push beyond Tier 7, where they can face the new Nemesis boss. Existing Midnight Delves will also receive new snake and venom variants.
Midnight Season 2 Mythic+ rewards
Season 2 will bring a new Mythic+ dungeon rotation, a new raid, a new PvP season, additional Prey targets, and new Arcantina quests. The rotation will include five newer dungeons and three returning locations.
New and current dungeons:
- Altar of Fangs
- Murder Row
- Den of Nalorakk
- The Blinding Vale
- Voidscar Arena
Returning dungeons:
- Kings’ Rest
- Ruby Life Pools
- Temple of Sethraliss
The seasonal Mythic+ rewards include the title “the Venomous” at a rating of 1,500, the Breath of Blight mount at 2,000, and the Breath of Ruin mount at 3,000. Players who finish Season 2 in the top 1% of their region earn the Venomous Champion achievement, while the top 0.1% earn the Venomous Hero title. The Mythic Keystone Myth achievement rewards the title “the Venomous Contender.” Completing a Mythic 10 or higher within the time limit also unlocks a portal for that dungeon.
Prey will receive new affixes, targets, and hunts on the Coiled Isle. The Arcantina will also add new quests, while Astalor will have new voice lines.
New PvP and interface features
Players will be able to enter Arenas against bots as part of Season 2. The feature follows the earlier introduction of Battlegrounds versus bots and is meant to provide a lower-pressure way to learn Arena play. Training Grounds: Arenas will open during the week of August 11, with the ranked PvP season beginning during the week of August 18.
Season 2 PvP rewards include the Venomous Gladiator’s Goredrake, which players can earn by winning 50 3v3 games at Elite rank. Ending the season in the top 0.1% of the 3v3 ladder, with at least 150 wins, grants the title “Venomous Gladiator.” Rated Solo Shuffle and Rated Battleground Blitz have their own seasonal titles and pennant toys, while top-ranked players can earn titles such as “Venomous Legend,” “Strategist,” and “Venomous Marshal.”
Other rewards include the Venomcoil Weapon Illusion at Rival II, the Gladiator’s Prestigious Cloak at Duelist, and the Gladiator’s Tabard at Elite. Players who win rated PvP matches at 1,000 rating or higher can earn a Vicious Saddle for the faction-colored Vicious Lightbloom Boar.
The Cooldown Manager will gain support for tracking trinkets and potions. Blizzard will also expand the ping system so players can ping their action bars, the Cooldown Manager, and their own unit frames to share spell and health information with their groups.
Raid Frames will receive new healer-focused configuration options. Players will be able to choose which healing buffs appear and set their display priorities.
Delves, Prey, and Lairs
Season 2 Delves will feature The Ring of Glory, Gnarldor Isle, and the new Venomfall Deeps Nemesis Delve. Nemesis ? difficulty and all Delve tiers will arrive during the week of August 11 without Bountiful Delves. Nemesis ?? difficulty, Bountiful Delves, and Keys will follow on August 18.
The season also adds progression through the Prey system. The new reward track begins after completing the “Prey: A Slithering Threat” quest. Rewards can then be purchased from Construct Ali’a and Construct V’anore at Astalor’s Sanctum in Silvermoon, with progress shown in the Journeys tab of the Adventure Guide.
Prey Season 2 begins with Normal and Hard modes during the week of August 11. Nightmare mode and Curse of the Isle arrive on August 18, along with four new Nightmare targets and new affixes on the Coiled Isle.
The reward track includes housing decor, crafting recipes, pets, cosmetic armor, toys, currencies, and a mount. Early unlocks include the Sturdy Silvermoon Crate Lid, Mysterious Sin’dorei Candlestick, Gilded Silvermoon Compass, and Companion Command Crystal toy.
At later levels, players can unlock the Vaunted Preyhunter’s cosmetic armor, several Preyhunter armor ensembles, the Preyhunter’s Ritbreaker and Prismguard pets, and the ability to create custom Hunts through the Preferential Killing quest. Level 10 also awards the title “Servant of Astalor,” the Preyhunter’s Fury mount, and Crimson Crystal Column housing decor.
The track also adds new ways to earn resources. Ral’kala, Terror of the Isle can provide extra Corrosive Souls and Corrosive Coin once per day per character, while higher-level Bountiful Delves can provide Afflicted Souls and Tormented Souls for bonus Champion-track and Hero-track equipment during Nightmare Hunts.
The Tidebound Grotto will first appear on World difficulty during the week of August 11. Normal, Heroic, and Mythic flexible-scaling difficulties will open on August 18. Lairs place World Boss-style encounters inside dedicated instances. The Mythic version supports 15 to 25 players with flexible scaling. Season 2’s featured boss is Nymrissa Wavecaller, and the encounter can be accessed through a summoning stone outside the instance.
Housing, Endeavors, and class updates
Housing will receive blueprint tools that let players save, export, and import complete homes, individual interiors or exteriors, and single rooms. A new Reset option will return placed items to storage. Blueprint imports will also show which items are available and which are missing, while still allowing the import to continue.
Noncombat companion pets will be able to roam through homes after players place a Pet Bed decor item. The update will also add four Endeavors for Amani trolls, kobolds, Ohn’ahran centaurs, and tortollans:
- Amani Trolls: Knock-off Amani
- Kobolds: Candle Culture
- Ohn’ahran Centaurs: Every Bakar Has Its Day
- Tortollans: Vacation Season
The story will continue with Arator as he deals with the fallout from the Voidspire and investigates the return of the Twilight’s Blade during the search for Xal’atath. Blizzard has not yet provided the full class tuning details, which are expected closer to the patch’s launch.
August Trading Post rewards
The August Trading Post bonus reward is Ensemble: Midnight Outlaw, a black-and-white transmog set containing multiple armor pieces, including two head pieces, two shoulder pieces, and two leg pieces. Players can earn Trader’s Tender by completing Traveler’s Log activities and spend it on the month’s mounts, transmogs, weapons, and other cosmetic items.
The Trading Post can be found outside the Mage District in Stormwind, beside Grommash Hold in Orgrimmar, in Dornogal’s Foregrounds on the Isle of Dorn, and in the renewed Silvermoon City. Blizzard’s August Trading Post guide contains the full item lineup and details on how the system works.
Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft arrives in November
Azeroth will also move to the tabletop with Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft. The crossover will release on November 17, with early access beginning November 3.
The release is designed to provide players and Dungeon Masters with material for campaigns set in the World of Warcraft universe. Pre-purchase bundles include MMO rewards such as the Black Dragon Mount, Gazer pet, Mimic Chest toy, and Mimic Chest decor. Pre-orders are available through Blizzard’s official crossover announcement.
New Midnight comic and housing soundtrack
Blizzard has also released the World of Warcraft: Midnight comic “Legacy of Rage.” The story follows Zul’jan as he confronts memories of his childhood, his grandfather’s legacy, and the possibility of a new Amani rise. Robert Brooks wrote the comic, Marco Del Forno handled the art and cover, Mauro Gulma provided the colors, and AndWorld Design worked on the lettering. Yeukayi Ushe reads Zul’jan’s part. The comic is available as a downloadable PDF.
Players can also listen to the World of Warcraft: Azeroth Housing Soundtrack, whose music focuses on the quieter side of Azeroth and compositions intended for player housing and personal spaces. The soundtrack is available through several music services.
Patch 12.1 will arrive on August 11, followed by Midnight Season 2 on August 18. Share your thoughts on the Curse of Ula’tek content, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, and Instagram.
