Windrose’s Ashlands Will Let Players Change Armor Looks Without Losing Stats
The update will also add a three-channel dyeing station and mannequins for displaying customized armor sets.

Windrose’s Ashlands update will let players change the look of their armor without giving up its stats, while adding new color tools and mannequins for collected outfits. Kraken Express outlined the three systems in a Steam announcement and says they remain a work in progress.
Transmog will add five cosmetic slots for the head, torso, arms, legs, and feet. Players can switch between these slots and regular equipment in the inventory. Equipped armor will keep providing its stats and bonuses, while the matching cosmetic piece determines the character’s appearance. Leaving a cosmetic slot empty shows the armor underneath instead. Other players will see the outfit, but the system applies only to armor, not weapons or accessories such as rings, necklaces, and backpacks.

A Dyeing Station, placeable through the building menu, will let players recolor individual armor pieces using main, secondary, and detail color channels. Both regular armor and cosmetic pieces can be dyed, and the interface will allow players to rotate their character and preview the colors before confirming. Applying a dye will require materials, though the exact crafting requirements are still being worked out.

Colors will be saved to each armor piece, so they stay with it when moved between inventories, dropped, or placed on display. Not every piece can be recolored, and some have no dyeable sections.
Mannequins will provide a place to display armor at home, with both male and female versions planned. Dyed pieces will retain their colors on display, making the mannequins useful for showing off a full outfit as well as organizing a collection.
Captains are also slated to customize ships in Ashlands, with separate exterior parts, sails, flags, and colors in the planned ship-customization system. Armor transmog and dyeing extend that appearance control to characters.
