War Thunder Update 2.59.0.78 Fixes Shadow Flicker and Vehicle Menu Bugs

The fixes also address item recycling, vehicle-rank controls, and preset management.

War Thunder update 2.59.0.78 addresses shadow flicker, confusing vehicle-rank controls, and several problems with recycling items and managing presets. Gaijin’s October 21 Steam announcement also details aircraft and ground-vehicle changes.

Ray-traced shadows could flicker on fast-moving aircraft when they outpaced the optimization grid, a problem most visible from the cockpit. Other fixes address distant tree shadows that looked too long or too short on slopes, as well as shadows disappearing briefly when switching to a tank sight with shadow quality set to “Very High.”

Two recycling issues are fixed: interface elements could overlap the item list, and crafting from recycled materials could produce fewer items than requested. In that second case, the game consumed fewer resources than the player had specified, slowing the process rather than using extra materials.

Vehicle research ranks are easier to restore after being collapsed. Hovering over a collapsed rank now highlights it and explains that a click will expand it, and clicking anywhere in the rank’s area works. Preset copies also appear next to their originals, while display filters now carry over to the vehicle lineup menu.

Separate fixes stop preset controls from disappearing when the custom-preset limit is reached and address slow neutral-gear turns in tanks from the Leopard and Type 90 families. An earlier neutral-turn slowdown fix for Leopard 2 variants and other vehicles followed regenerative-steering testing.

  • In the preset selection window, the buttons for copying and creating presets no longer disappear when the limit for custom presets is reached; instead, they become inactive, and clicking them triggers a tooltip indicating that the limit has been reached.
  • Display filters for vehicle presets now also affect the display of the list within the vehicle presets menu.
  • When a preset is copied, it is now placed right after the original preset and not at the very end of the list.
  • An issue where, when crafting items from recycled materials, the number of items crafted could be lower than the number requested by the player has been fixed.
  • An issue where the recycle button in the item recycling window could overlap with the list of items has been fixed.
  • An issue where the window for allocating squadron research points to vehicles could appear, instead of the points being applied automatically to the currently selected squadron vehicle has been fixed.
