The Outlast Trials Season 7.1 Will End Mod Support on September 8
The scheduled release will add the Chemical Leak event, 2 MK-Challenges, built-in visual settings, and a roadmap covering the rest of 2026.

Red Barrels will end mod support for The Outlast Trials when Season 7.1 arrives on September 8 at 10 a.m. ET. The same release will bring the Chemical Leak limited-time event, 2 new MK-Challenges, and several settings that were previously available through mods.
Red Barrels detailed the timing and changes in its Steam announcement. The studio said mods could provide gameplay advantages or change the game in unintended ways, so they will no longer be supported in order to keep the experience consistent across all game modes.
Season 7.1 follows July’s Project Boneyard launch, which brought the Prison Farm environment and its new Trial to the game. Our Season 7 coverage breaks down that earlier release and its additions.
Season 7.1 brings Chemical Leak and 2 MK-Challenges
Chemical Leak will center on shutting off poisonous valves, with its own exclusive Catalog for players to work through during the event. The release will also add the MK-Challenges Change the Program and Fund the Campaign.
Red Barrels is also moving several visual and quality-of-life controls into the game itself. Players will have access to the following settings without relying on mods:
- Field of View slider
- Camera Shake slider
- Motion Blur on or off
- Film Grain on or off
- Chromatic Aberration on or off
- Lens Flares on or off
- Vignette on or off
- Bloom on or off
- Startup videos on or off
- Toggle HUD Display on or off
The studio also said it will open a general feedback form to gather suggestions for more in-game quality-of-life features.
The Outlast Trials roadmap continues into December
Red Barrels’ roadmap places Season 7.2 in October and Season 8 in December. Season 7.2 is planned to include a Gestalt limited-time event, new MK-Challenges, and a new community event.

Season 8 is planned to add a new Trial environment, a new Prime Asset, a Deluxe Catalog, another MK-Challenge, and the Winter Kills limited-time event with its 2026 Catalog. The roadmap also lists a new community event, a new Invasion season, and Twitch Drops.
September 8 will bring the first part of that plan, along with the end of mod support. Share your thoughts in the comments, and follow us on X, Bluesky, YouTube, Instagram, Steam, and Telegram.
