The Outlast Trials Hotfix Tightens Invasion Combat and Fixes Escalation Disconnects
The July 22 Project Boneyard update changes Backstab, Slash, Steel Trap, Imposter Night Vision, and solo Invasion timings.

Red Barrels has deployed a new Project Boneyard hotfix for The Outlast Trials. The July 22 update addresses Escalation disconnections, fixes several Invasion issues, and adjusts how Imposters and Reagents interact during Trials. The full announcement is available in the official Steam patch notes.
The largest group of changes affects Invasion. Backstab now incapacitates Reagents instead of killing them instantly, while its charge time, angle, and Slash cooldown have all been adjusted. Steel Trap is also easier to escape and deals less damage, and solo Invasion matches now last three minutes instead of five.
The Outlast Trials: Project Boneyard Hotfix Patch Notes
This hotfix covers disconnection problems, rank tracking, the Struggle minigame, and a missing clue in the “Cancel the Broadcast” MK-Challenge. The Invasion changes also affect attacks, traps, vision, respawns, healing items, and team communication.
- Improved disconnection issues in Escalation runs.
- Fixed an issue where Imposters would not receive a rank when leaving an Invasion early using “Exit Invasion” from the Pause Menu.
- Fixed an issue where the Struggle minigame would not appear if a Reagent was grabbed by an NPC while entering a Steel Trap.
- Fixed an issue where a television screen was missing a code location hint in the MK-Challenge “Cancel the Broadcast”.
